THEY'RE CLEANING UP - IN ENGLISH (cheese steak wars update)
Philadephia Daily News ^ | 1/03/08 | Michael Smerconish

SO I'M lying on a sunshiny beach in Florida earlier this week, enjoying 84 degrees of warmth, and find that I'm thinking about Joey Vento. No, I wasn't yearning for a "cheeze-wit." I was reading about a language dispute even more insane than the decision by the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission to haul Vento into court. As we all know, Vento is charged with discrimination for asking his customers to speak English. (The sign at Geno's reads, "This is America. When ordering, please speak English.")

Whenever you’re in Philly, stop into Geno’s to have a cheesesteak “wit”. Guys like Joe Vento deserve our support.

Will do....even though it’s not on my diet. But, darn, they’re so good!

I don’t think you even have to be in philly. You can make a donation and tell them to give the hoagie to a local policeman or fire man. I could be wrong but I will double check. Geno’s hosts lots of fund raisers

I don’t remember seeing the picture of Daniel Faulker calling Mumia a murderer the last time I was at Geno’s (about a year and a half ago), this probably upsets the left more than the sign about speaking English.

My friend wants to go to PA one day to get some cheese steaks. I told him let’s get everybody to go and make a 4 vehicle convoy out of it.

I’ll recommend this place.

I heard her talking about the book with Hannity a few weeks ago. If the left wanted to pick a death row inmate to use as a “poster child” for the anti-death penalty movement, Mumia was the worst possible choice.

Usually, when I’m in the Philly area for more than a day or two, I will go to a few different places to get a variety.

Joey Vento has been a vocal supporter of the Faulkner family.
He also has been a vocal supporter of the police department, especially families of those killed in the line of duty.
To me his support of the Faulkners is at the bottom of the ridiculous harassment of him.
Try as they may however support from the community and outside communities has been great.
We need more people like Joey.

Sent this email to Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations at email address pchrfaq_grp@phila.gov

To whom it may concern: If a Spanish restaurant has a sign that says Please order in Spanish would you be taking them to court? If not maybe you should rethink your Agenda. Sincerely, redacted

Maybe a few thousand more would help? Nah just dreaming.

Read what I said in #7.

The left will never grasp that people don’t like to get speeding tickets, but still like and support the police and recognize the sacrifice that ALL police officers make. I know a few police officers and they have horrible schedules, they are the object of ridicule from certain elements of society, their lives are constantly in danger and they do all of this for salaries that are well below average.

Philadelphia Human Relations Commission - Authority in the hands of morons with nothing to do results in these kinds of moronic decisions.

There is only one authentic Spanish restaurant in L.A. It would be nice if they spoke Castillian Spanish. It was a 2 MONTH reservation to get a table there last time I checked.

I know. The Spanish sort of look down on Mexico and other SA countries in their own way. They speak the King’s Spanish and the cultures are hard to compare. I was there para tres anos tambien AF. That Med coast is the place to be if you get a chance. But not now- 50 Euros cost $75 now!!!

The problem with that shot from wikipedia is that it cuts off the Terry Roosevelt picture at the top of the quote (though you can read his name on it if you look closely). Another view:

Looks like some “free Mumia” cretin has cut the Faulkner sign.
