This is just a rumor, well timed at the 11th hour before Iowa.

Over at Intrade, his dropout contract is the highest, but it is losing ground now that the Thompson campaign has actually commented on it. He will probably go back to 2nd behind Edwards on dropout probabilities by tomorrow, unless he really does very poorly in Iowa.

DROPOUT.JAN08.(F)THOMPSON
Fred Thompson to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 35.1

So besides the media hype, just how many delegates does Iowa provide for the nomination? In the PGA, this used to be referred to as the silly season; there is a tournament every weekend, just to provide the TV networks with someplace warm to cover during the winter.

Oh, my! The Politico says Fred’s dropping out.

Gee whiz golly...I guess I’ll have to support Governor Ron Paul now, or that nice Senator Huckabee...he’s a preacher, you know. I’d better go make a donation to their campaigns...maybe the good-looking Romney fellow, too (he looks familiar...isn’t he a TV preacher, too?). In fact, maybe I’ll take a look at those Democrat-ic candidates (they have lot’s of free stuff)...maybe Oprah’s brother, that Obie-wana guy. He’s so nice. Clean, too.

Boy, I’m SO glad The Politico saved me from
making any more contributions to that silly old Fred Thompson. He needs to get back to prosecuting criminals on TV, anyway. Those thoughtful media reporters are really looking out for me, aren’t they?

I wouldn’t know what to think without them.

wouldn’t surprise me...Fred sure had it in the beginning.

if he finishes worse than 3rd in Iowa folks will study his campaign in the future to see where he went wrong.

i think it was the lackluster performance in the first two debates and ignoring the media a bit earlier on

unfortunately Iowa has been the eventual GOP nominee every election since 1976 and folks thinking they could ignore that this year got hurt.

i also think he let Huckster get some of his support though all the Southern Protestant Conservatives I know support him.

hell everyone I know supports him....i gave him money 3 days ago again but I’m not optimistic

something went bad wrong for a guy to go from number one before he announced to 3rd or 4th a month after he formally entered

no matter how we like to paint it

This idea is inconsistent with itself.

Fred's not in this for personal ambition, as all the media loves to quote and some mis-quote. If he thought Mclame was good enough to endorse, he'd have never started this in the first place.

Fred is not dropping out and he's not endorsing Mclame.

Fred debunked it himself last night... This is a dirty trick from a rival campaign that wants to stop Fred’s surge in the polls.

Here’s what Fred said last night:

“Thompson also denied that he or anyone on his staff said he would drop out of the race before New Hampshire if he finished lower than fourth place tonight.

‘Absolutely totally made up, out of whole cloth,” he said of such reports.’

Wow, first CBS and now Politico are judged as credible sources.

I remember the days when real FReepers shown the light on the deception of rags such as these.

Actually, I think those days are still present on FR and it’s just Mitt-mutts covered with the stench of fear that are clinging to these leftist rags in desperate hope.

LOLOL!

This is about search engine manipulation.

Thus the pathetically few caucus goers who do a google search will see only thise pathetic headline. No Barf alert, no left wing wet dream alert.

Most people do not know the institutional bias of politico.

Romney Thompson ticket? (music to my ears)

If he drops out it will be to assist another candidate. This is politics.

But wait a minute!... Did not I hear just about one hour age that FT himself had assured everyone this was a rumor? Can anyone tell me, did he say anything to dispel the rumors or not?

Jesus, whom do we believe on anything anymore?... It's all rumors and innuendo. I just want to know to what extend is the truth becoming a casualty...

Fred has got them running scared. This report is pure BS. Fred will stay in past SC and I believe will have gained so much ground by then that he will be a lock for the nomination.
