Fred Thompson may drop out (For any latecomers, it's baloney)
The Politico ^ | January 02, 2008 | Jonathan Martin and Mike Allen

DES MOINES, Iowa – Several Republican officials close to Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign said they expect the candidate will drop out of the race within days if he finishes poorly in Thursday’s Iowa caucus.

Go to the Romney truth file. Romney has plenty of public statements about being pro-abortion.

Romney: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have, since the time when my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, we should sustain and support it. I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." - Source

"I think it would be a positive thing to have women have the choice of taking morning-after pills….I would favor having it available." - Source

Constantly trying to trick people into believing that Mitt Romney is a conservative is even dirtier.

Nobody believes that bunk except the three classes of Mitt supporters:

1) LDS folks who think Romney can do no wrong.

2) Women with crushes.

3) Beancounter types who have looked at how great Mitt looks on paper and decided to sell out any principle they might have had to support the guy who is so ‘perfect’.

Of course, some happen to be all of the above. They’re the real scary ones.

I could run a dancing bear dressed in a lime green leisure suit and get a respectable turn out from the base.

No, you couldn't. You wouldn't even get a good turnout from the base for Romney. Not in this election cycle.

After 8 years of Bush demoralizing conservatism, don't expect conservatives to crawl across broken glass to go to the polls to vote for a liberal East Coast elitist who bears a striking resemblance to the last 5 Democrat candidates for President on almost every issue that matters to them. And try to convince them that Supreme Court nominations matter so much that they should vote for President based upon it. It won't happen. Then blame them when you ignored their position at every turn leading to the election.

Superb strategy. Really top drawer.

This is just a rumor, well timed at the 11th hour before Iowa.

Over at Intrade, his dropout contract is the highest, but it is losing ground now that the Thompson campaign has actually commented on it. He will probably go back to 2nd behind Edwards on dropout probabilities by tomorrow, unless he really does very poorly in Iowa.

I think if you would like to beat Hillary, you should learn not to use her tactics, because that’s the kind of thing she pulls. If Fred is encouraging those kinds of tactics in any way shape or form, then that could explain why he hasn't done as well as was expected, because he sounds to be a better man then he actually is. Some people can talk it but they can’t walk it.

By stating my opinion after listening to Mitt's own words. Mitt has disavowed Reagan conservatism. Supported the assault weapons ban. Supported extra rights for gays and lesbians. Appointed liberal to moderate justices. Lied about stupid things like being a lifelong hunter. Lied about receiving an endorsement from the NRA. Lied about seeing his father march with MLK.

Your man Mitt has disavowed conservatism until a year ago. Why that does not give you pause I cannot figure out.

As for walking the walk, name an inconsistent position of FDT. Name lies Fred has told to prop himself up. Fact is you can't. Fred is a man comfortable in his own skin and I think that is the reason he scares you Mitt supporters. You can't attack him on positions so you try the garbage that was started tonight. Pathetic if you ask me.

The campaign slogan would be simple: Not Hillary!

LOL, you’re a riot. Earlier this year when Fred was starting to think about running you MittWitt sleazebags were spamming every Fred thread with the most vile lies, filth, and innuendo imaginable, but now we bring up Mitt’s record and his sleazy campaign practices (like this rumor) and it’s time to call the waaaambulance. This is a political campaign and YOUR guy is the dirtiest playa on the field with the possible exception of the Dope from Hope, so take your “Mitt the poor victim” sob-story elsewhere.

They tried that with ‘Not Pelosi’ in 2006. Didn’t get too far.

Nothing justifies slander, Mitt is pro-life, yet people will say the opposite around here without punity.

So quoting him is not ok? And pointing to actual legislation he has been a part of is not ok? And pointing to actual policy stands he has taken in the past is not ok? Pray tell, what is ok? Are we only allowed to quote from his press releases? Does that strike you as odd?

"Who in his campaign is talking like this to the press?"

Republican officials close to his campaign, i.e., people requesting to remain unnamed, such as someone from another campaign, I think. I seriesly doubt it's coming from Fred's campaign at all.

How many years ago were those statements made? I notice that the dates were left conspiciously out. That won’t fly. I’m sorry, people do change their opinions. It does happen, I wish more people would, otherwise we will never outlaw abortion, and that is the whole point of being against abortion, to change people’s minds? Otherwise, what is it just a football issue that nobody wants to change? It’s just something to kick around to sound good? I wish more people would change their minds. And someone like Mitt who has had a change of heart is more effective then someone who just wants to use the abortion issue as a poltical football.

Although I am by no means ruling out Mitt, it’s silly to say he’s the most conservative one “in the running” because Thompson IS NOT “in the running.” (Duncan Hunter, sadly, truly isn’t.) Tell that to President Dean. Let’s just see how the first 6 weeks of primaries play out.
