DES MOINES, Iowa Several Republican officials close to Fred Thompsons presidential campaign said they expect the candidate will drop out of the race within days if he finishes poorly in Thursdays Iowa caucus.

Heard that rumor too. Been out there for about a year. Don't buy that one either though.
Just thinking in terms of money, because we’re told to follow the money.
It would make absolutely no sense for a so-called “broke” campaign to get out of the race before the Fed distributes the campaign cash that goes to those who will play by the Fed’s rules.
They could use it to pay off their bills.
The bottom line is that the Thompson campaign denies they are getting out of the race.
This is a dirty trick.
FOAD, spambot troll.
I think you are way off the mark, I think Mitt is the one most likely to beat Hillary. He is a life-long solid family man with good character and he is a strong leader who is very well spoken. It sounds like you consider him to be the biggest threat to whoever you are supporting.
You mean when he was "honest"? Yeah. Weird. Huge Mistake. Should've danced around the subject a couple of times, announced that he has been a "life-long" churchgoer and then commissioned a poll to see which church he should belong to and then spread a rumor about Romney's church. Oh, wait. That's the frontrunners. Great future for us if Romney or Huckabee is our candidate.
He looks awful on tv.
You really got to stop smoking that stuff.
Folks refuse to believe that only a RHINO can beat Hillary. The hardcore base is already locked in on both sides. The election will be decided by those voters in the squishy middle — the fence-sitters.
If not a Huck ploy, then a dem ploy.
Romney is an anti-life abortionist who is pushing the gay agenda and trying hard to make illegal amnesty the law of the land.
Hhahaha! You're on fire this evening! :)
God that's going to be fun. I'm going to flame the living hell out of every one of these retards.
Really? Or is the candidate that most invigorates their base and gets out the vote? I see no data that supports your view. Let me know if you have any.
Oh, come on! Nobody believes that crock.
By the way, Mitt has the HIGHEST negatives of any Republican in the race and is at a DEFICIT of about 20% positive-negative. He is unelectable.
Too much work?
I think it is disgusting the way people have decided it is ok to tell out right lies about Mitt. It’s wrong. When Fred supporters do that it makes me think that Fred doesn’t deserve to win. Nothing justifies slander, Mitt is pro-life, yet people will say the opposite around here without punity. I think if you would like to beat Hillary, you should learn not to use her tactics, because that’s the kind of thing she pulls. If Fred is encouraging those kinds of tactics in any way shape or form, then that could explain why he hasn’t done as well as was expected, because he sounds to be a better man then he actually is. Some people can talk it but they can’t walk it.
By definition the “base” is locked in. It doesn’t matter whether they are motivated to vote for a candidate or against the opposition. I could run a dancing bear dressed in a lime green leisure suit and get a respectable turn out from the base.
Mitt is absolutely the most conservative candidate in the running.
Thompson and Hunter aren’t in the running.
And constantly repeating that Romney is pro-abortion is a dirty trick too. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. I don’t approve of dirty tricks, I just don’t like double standards. I agree that this may very well be a dirty trick, but don’t act so indignant. Some people can dish it out, but they can’t take it.
In your socialist dreams.
