Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul has released a new television advertisement on the topic of immigration that will run in Iowa and New Hampshire.
This advertisement makes it clear that as president Dr. Paul would oppose amnesty, secure the border, end birthright citizenship, end welfare to illegal aliens, and restore the rule of law, said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder.

The following is a transcript of the 30 second advertisement:
Narrator: For generations, Lady Liberty welcomed immigrants that came here legally, followed the rules and led productive lives. Today, illegal immigrants violate our borders and overwhelm our hospitals, schools and social services.
Ron Paul wants border security NOW:
Physically secure the border.
No amnesty.
No welfare to illegal aliens.
End birthright citizenship.
No more student visas from terrorist nations.
Standing up for the rule of law Ron Paul for President.
Congressman Paul: Im Ron Paul and I approve this message.

Didn’t he drop out of the race?
I thought his Liberterian views would be for open borders? Has he flip flopped?
Too bad his current rhetoric does not match his record.
Once, a guy came along with great plans for a superhighway and an advanced, affordable automobile. He had plans to revitalize a depressed economy and control illegal immigration.
Oh and he wanted to gas the Jews.
Ron Paul is the same type of politician - he has some great ideas, but the total package is just beyond palatable.
This should have happened 10 years ago.

How would he go about amending the constitution to wipe out this constitutional right?
Unless I am mistaken and it is not in the constitution that if you are born here you are a citizen.
Too bad he doesn’t have the record to back it up.
Paul has some questionable votes in this area (3 times voted for amnesty for visa over stayers, voted against troops on the border, etc), but lets look at just a couple of recent ones and you decide WHY he would vote against these measures.
H.Res. 800- a resolution stating that that States should not issue drivers licenses or other government-issued photo identification to aliens who are unlawfully present in the United States. Paul voted NO http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/ROLL_100.asp
H.R. 4160- legislation withholding highway funds from those states which issue a drivers license or identification card to illegal aliens. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h4160/show-; Paul did not co sponsor- no final vote yet.
In 1987, he wrote that the United States should not have a national immigration policy and should welcome everyone who wants to come here and work.

OK, but he'd have to get Congress and the States to amend the Constitution first. You know, since he's such a strict Constitutionalist...

Regardless of his kook brained ideas, this idea is certainly what is needed.
Hardly - libertarians (small "l") believe that the Federal government ought to get out of the lives of its citizens. Doesn't mean that the government can't defend its borders - it's one of the most legitimate duties of the government.
Fred has called for ending birthright citizenship as well. Paul has stated that a constitutional amendment would be necessary though, it should be said, that the section of the fourteenth amendment on “subject to the laws thereof” provides an argument for those who do not support an amendment.

I suggest that the curious tune in tonight to Larry King and decide for yourself. I found him to be articulate, rational, soft spoken, and deeply principled.
And before the first of you starts casting stones, be prepared to explain the cynical flip flopping of the other candidates on the issues that matter to conservatives.

I’d like to see an amendment to make clear that those whose parents are here illegaly cannot themselves be born citizens.
I am not talking about illegals, I am talking about babies born here.

From Amendment XIV, Section 1:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. [emphasis mine]
Since invaders aren't subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, their children shouldn't automatically gain citizenship.
