The New Rules of Marriage

Of course, there is much to disdain about The New Rules of Marriage, but what offended me most was its pervasive celebration of inequality amongst the sexes. Women want more out of relationships today so…men must give it to them. Why is that the case? In every equitable transaction, the side who asks for more must offer more in exchange. This leads us to ask, what do modern women offer men that is superior to what their predecessors proffered in the past?......

Seems like the 'boss/slave' thing is ok as long as it is respectively 'woman/man'.

Nope, that's not OK either.

Believe it or not, my marriage started off similar to that thought, until the wife learned that just because she told me something didn't neccessarily mean that I was going to do it without a good reason.

I've now been married almost 25 years to the same woman.
She realizes that it's a partnership and she isn't always the senior partner.

Thank you for saying that. My husband and I always check with each other before making independent plans. We’re not asking each other for permission...it’s simply respectful. We have a family and all its obligations to consider. Most of the time we give each other a kiss and say, “Have fun.”

I’ll betcha if a woman called up his wife and asked her to go shopping, she wouldn’t turn to her husband and ask.

I agree with you. BS.

“Now shbox is going to start wondering if the guy’s wife was even home when the call came in? Maybe the “buddy” would rather watch TV than play poker with him?”

OR...family guy doesn’t have the same desire to waste money that he’d rather spend on....food - birthday gifts for the kids - school supplies....
God forbid.

You’re welcome.

I rescheduled our youngest daughter’s First Communion so my husband could run a half-marathon in the woods. I realize that different families have different ways of doing things. In ours, we try to work together to accommodate everyone’s activities.

If the wife were married to a good husband, he would keep her too busy working around the house to do any shopping other than grocery shopping.

There’s never been anything to compare with “The Muppet Show”!

Oh, you got that right. Santa just got Season 2 on DVD "for the kids".

WBill Jr. and I love it. We rarely let him watch TV....I can't stand kids' programming today. Sesame Street ain't what I grew up with - It's turning into one long 'Elmo' commercial. And don't get me started on 'Dora', 'Wiggles', etc...

Not too much educational about the Muppet Show, but kids and adults can watch it and both be entertained.

Yes, it was hysterical! I’d forgotten Candice Bergen was ever that young :-). (/meow)

I’m sorry you’ve been having a bad week! Would you like to borrow my six-year-old? He will sing you the Greatest Hits of Lynyrd Skynyrd (complete with guitar-twanging-noises) in a melange of English, Spanish, and Greek!

Ya know,
I could bet two things and be a millionaire—
1. That there is an average of 1 thread every other day that has a majority of posts that are negative about females as a group (us girls here included in the hate-fest)-— either by intention, drift or hijack.
2. I’d more quickly find garters on my hens than a would a single mirror thread (as in posted by a female member and responded to by a majority of females bashing all men and their evils).

I have heard that all of my life; where does one go for this free milk?

The Dairy Farm.

(aka bars)

Why buy the cow when the milk is free

Not just free, the same cow supplies milk to God knows how many. Why would you want milk from such a cow ? And sometimes all it takes for half a gallon is to buy the cow a small bowl of fodder and 'be nice to her'.

Have fun and screw around until you get old and then marry some young professional,

You should take a look at some of these dating sites. All these mid thirties to nearing 40 women, never married/no kids who have "been in tons of relationships to now know exactly what she wants", "not willing to settle", "man must be tall /attractive", "chemistry a must".... etc etc. I get a kick out of reading these profiles.

I just know I can't possibly keep up with all the stuff that goes on in our house well enough to make that decision on the fly without asking my wife. OTOH, if I really wanted to go, she'd adjust.

I can relate to that. That sounds reasonable. I can also relate to a man wanting to do something else and telling me "no". I can even relate if he said he wanted to take his wife out that night.

But I cannot relate to a man asking permission, then hanging his head because he is not "allowed" to go.
