A knees-up is a party (i.e. dancing at a party).

So, the author is calling it a sick party because it celebrated a woman’s murder.

"Knees-up" is Brit slang for a lively party.

When there is lively dancing at a party, knees are up on the dancefloor.

The joint is jumping, so to speak.
