Miss. congressman to replace Sen. Lott

Republican Haley Barbour's choice to succeed Sen. Trent Lott is Rep. Roger Wicker, a conservative congressman, congressional officials with knowledge of the selection process said Monday.
Wicker, 56, will serve until a special election is held, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made. Wicker is expected to be a candidate in the special election, which Barbour has scheduled for Nov. 4.
Wicker had been mentioned as a possible successor since Lott's resignation this month after serving one year of a six-year term. Lott's term runs through 2012.
Barbour was to announce Wicker's appointment later Monday.
Wicker also was resigning from the U.S. House.
Wicker was elected to the U.S. House in 1994 to succeed the late Rep. Jamie Whitten. He has been re-elected six times from the 1st District in north Mississippi.

There’s no special election here. Wicker was appointed by the governor.
I hesitate to say this, since I hate to paint whole states with a broad brush, but when I see that a state is consistently in the top 5 in the ratio of federal dollars received to dollars paid in federal taxes, I’m not surprised when some dirty dealing is going on in that state.
Incidentally, we’re gonna go through this kabuki theater again in a couple years; no way Thad finishes his term.

Wicker's a vast improvement upon Lott though.
What are the chances that the corporate lobbyists and LULAC will corrupt him?
If he espouses the same pro-amnesty and anti-speech clap trap as Lott after he's actually been elected to the seat then this change will be pointless.
The push for Puerto Rican statehood and quasi-independence for Hawaii really disturbs me.
It's almost like our senators are in the employ of a foreign government.
Reminds me of the Capitol Hill portion of that fantastic documentary, Border.

I spoke with Wicker about this and there was more to it. IMO Wicker is clear of any accusations. Your previous statements were forwarded to Wicker’s office and were rebuked to my satisfaction.

It sure makes you wonder how a small, low-life state like Mississippi consistently receives those federal dollars when the control of those federal dollars rests in the hands of how many other congressman, senators, and one president at a time. Hmmmmmmmmm. Mississippi has how many congressmen and how many senators? It’s amazing what kind of arm-twisting those seven people manage when the federal budget is negotiated!

I second the motion. Doug, could you at least give us a hint as to what Wicker's excuse was for endorsing an anti-American, liberal Democrat crook such as Aníbal Acevedo-Vilá for governor and actually appearing in a commercial with Ted Kennedy in support for Acevedo-Vilá's candidacy?
BTW, I found on YouTube the video of that commercial that Wicker cut for Aníbal Acevedo-Vilá. Notice the other members of Congress endorsing Acevedo-Vilá: Ted Kennedy, Bob Menendez, Jack Murtha, Xavier Becerra, Jim Oberstar and James Clyburn---it's like a who's who of liberal Democrats. Wicker's role in the commercial is, as a Republican endorsing him, to make Acevedo-Vilá appear to be a moderate instead of an ultraliberal. I would really like to hear Wicker's explanation for his apostasy in going along with Fat Teddy, Baghdad Jack Murtha and others and cutting a commercial for a defender of members of terrorist groups (such as Filiberto Ojeda of the Macheteros, the terrorist group responsible for countless deaths during the 70s and 80s). It’s my home state. I love the place. Wish we were able to live there with the most charitable people in the country.

Given the amount of Chinese money that must be awash in our federal political system, not to mention money from other sources, this probably is one part of the picture.
