British people are now convinced about the dangers of global warming but are either baffled about how to stop it or are ignoring the issue.
Analysts say few people are taking action to deal with the threat of climate change, although over the past 12 months the vast majority have come to accept that it poses a real threat to the world. Opinion polls reveal much confusion among the public about what Britain should do to combat the problem.
A backlash is now a real threat, said Phil Downing, head of environmental research for Ipsos Mori. 'There's cynicism because on the one hand we're being told [the problem] is very serious and on the other hand we're building runways, mining Alaskan oil; there's a lot going on that appears to be heading in the opposite direction.'
This is particularly evident in the huge public resistance to green taxes. 'There's a cynicism the government is using the green agenda as an excuse for hitting motorists and people who want to fly,' added Downing.

A key factor will be the weather, said West. 'If we have a nice average year, whatever that means, people will say: "Climate change: what of it?" But if we have either an extreme heatwave or more flooding, I think there's going to be a cumulative effect. The next time we have a national-scale weather-related emergency, people will say: "Enough ... we can't allow this to be normal". In a way, if that happens, it makes our job easier, but clearly I don't want to wish a disaster on anyone.'

That's true, but when it does, the greenies will quickly claim credit for "saving the planet" because of their "raising awareness".
Not one of the Gorebot liberals I know who talk about global warming carpools, takes the bus, or rides a bike anywhere. They ALL drive SUVs.
Then they will sacrifice small animals to appease the Great Bush, Controller of Climate.
Of course they don't. They expect the little people to do all the suffering.
I hate the nasty light. I think they are not pleasing, artistically. I cannot stand that they are full of mercury. And I REALLY find myself resisting to being told what to do by a bunch of liberal panty-waists who think they get to control ME.
But then, I am really bad. I always REQUEST plastic bags at the grocery stores, especially the ones that want you to use paper or cloth. It gives me great satisfaction, my very own ‘molon labe’ moment, almost every day. hahah.
I despise them too. It drives me crazy when someone goes on and on about how the light is "no different" than incandescent. Pure BS. Plus I've always wanted to ask them, if breaking a mercury thermometer caused an entire school to be evacuated and a Hazmat team brought in to clean it up, how can these bulbs be "safe"? If they supposedly only have a "tiny" amount of mercury in them, do they need to send in a "tiny" Hazmat team if someone drops them?
Great name for them “POS” bulbs...can’t use them in an easy bake oven, 14 watts doesn’t give enough light for half blind people (me), and the claim they last 7 to 10 times longer is no good as I bought 8 of them and 2 have already burned out (I am interested in if they save me money), and oh....don’t throw them in the trash...they are hazmat. Just sweet!
I would certainly hope so.

Just wait until the next Little Ice Age begins (one well-known Australian professor estimates that it basically will begin within 20 to 30 years, IIRC). It’ll be a hoot listening to her blame THAT one on us!
Forget that! If our CO2 is as significant as the global warmers say it is, it could very well mitigate the next Little Ice Age. You know, prevent famine, death, disease, and so on. We wouldn't want THAT, now would we? /s
True libs - like the Shakers are a dying race. They don’t want to spoil the planet with more children....
Well, she is blaming the December 2006 snow storms that shut down Denver International Airport and this December’s smaller snow storms on global “warming” so nothing is out of the question. Despite the fact that Colorado is coming out of a dry spell and returning to more normal snow patterns.
I personally think that Bush can cram a CFL up his ass for signing the energy bill, but there are a number of people on this thread saying the the CFLs are “full” of mercury. Don’t they have roughly 1/150th the amount of mercury found in an old-fashioned thermometer, or something like that? It’s some really small quantity that renders their breakage practically irrelevant to me, personally.
Dump a pot of boiling water over her head and tell her it is snowing. She obviously has zero common sense.
Milo's out helping his grandfather hunt liberals, baits one with the call of "No Nukes", liberal jumps up out of the weeds, and grandpappy takes aim while the liberal yells "Gun Control!", and after the wounding yells "Socialized Medicine!".
I'm pretty sure it ran between the 1980 election, and Reagan's inauguration.
Oil shale comes to mind, but the guy is over 1000 miles off target if that is what he is talking about.
I agree about the hysteria, but I point out that if Bush were the one pushing CFLs, the liberals would be the ones hooting that he was "poisoning the earth".
