Saturday was another special day at Fort Carson as about a hundred more soldiers were welcomed home from Iraq. The soldiers with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team have been deployed since October of last year. For some a lot has changed at home while they've been gone.
They march in side by side, in front of their favorite fans. 125 brave war heroes who left their loved ones to fight for our freedom are finally home.
"It's been pretty hard at times," said Alison Miller.
She has spent the last nine months as a single mom.
"My husband came home two days before he was born and he got to see him for two weeks and then he went back, he's nine months old now," said Alison.
And her son Logan has grown up a lot.
"He's missed the crawling, the sitting up, he's still not walking yet," said Alison.
Alison is just sad that her husband Sgt. Justin Miller hasn't had the chance to get to know his son.
"We have a picture out at home with his voice recorded and we would play that," Alison said.
Finally, the soldiers are dismissed and Justin gets to see his son.
"I don't even recognize him, he's big, he's amazing," said Justin.
And his dad is home in time to teach him how to walk, all and proud like a Fort Carson soldier.
Several more hundred soldiers will be returning on Monday. The entire 2nd BCT is expected home by the middle of January.
Yep.
Wow. Broke me up too. God bless our troops and their families who are sacrificing as well. Everyone is sacrificing for the war effort. I’m so glad this little boy could see, hug and love his daddy again. God bless them all.
WELCOME HOME.
God Bless you all!
Indeed, the sacrifices are great, and most go unspoken.
