Experts are trying to identify a huge metal container that has been washed up on a beach in the Western Isles.
The tank, which is 27m high, has no markings and is thought to have fallen from a ship before being washed up on the west of Benbecula.
It was discovered by a dog walker on Poll Na Crann beach - known locally as Stinky Bay - near Griminish.
Stornoway Coastguard is using two numbers on the container to try to find out where the item has come from.
Alasdair MacEachen, assistant director of environmental services at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar told BBC Scotland: "It's certainly generated a fair bit of interest with people walking on the beach or just travelling along the road, because you can actually see it from the main road along the west side of Benbecula.
"It would be standing almost 30m tall and really looks pretty much like a silo. I think it's a bulk storage tank of some sort, possibly for storing some liquids."

Concur. It appears to be designed to be mounted vertically, with the conical section facing down. Retaining ring (painted white, with signs of carbon steel corrosion) with flanges might be for legs or stabilization anchor bolted to a frame or foundation. Insulation appears to be on the sides. Bottom flange and bolts appear too small in diameter for any deep subsurface design and no signs of burning to indicate aerospace design. Stainless fittings would seem to support perhaps foodstuffs or process bin. Probably cheaper to rebuild a new one than fetch it and repair it.
I dunno, those numbers look Arabic to me....
I agree...probably oil and gas related....
Because it might be a giant practical-joke snake.
ROTFLOL!
Yup, looks like a milk storage tank to me too.
Sam’s Club sized can of non-dairy whipped topping?
My husband who helps build pulp and paper mills says it might be a filter for something....
Jimmy Hoffa, is that you?
Way off course. Especially since the Gulf Stream, which Algor invented, is supposedly broken down and allowing the UK and Western Europe to freeze...
That is what is frustrating to me as well, no photos of the end higher apparently up on the beach.
If it wasn’t 90ft in length, it might have been something from a Container vessel were my first thoughts, but the mounting flanges around what appears to be the bottom of a silo storage type tank tell me that is off thinking.
It appears to be some form of storage tank for apparently either a liquid, or something refined be it a powder, whatever as the portal at the bottom is quite small and apparently concentrated.
It would have been on deck stowage most certainly.
Sure have missed her too. She was SO entertaining on Rush’s shows.
The scorch marks give it away... It’s Janet Reno’s vibrator!
It would more than likely have been posted “Tare: 5580” if that was the posted weight of this thing. As well it would have other such markings for Net capacity and gross weight I should think. I think the 5580 is an I.D. number.
