High priorities: Immigration/border enforcement, tax reform
Abortion: Pro-life.
Capital Punishment: Supports capital punishment.
Education
Education: Hunter is in favor of returning school curriculum issues to the states, local communities and to families. He supports streamlining the responsibilities of the U.S. Department of Education toward a goal of working in cooperation with local and state governments to meet local and state learning levels. Supports taking the actions necessary to strengthen our public educational system and believes school vouchers are the opportunity to provide students and their families with additional educational choices. Pledges to ensure that home-schooled students have the same access and opportunities to federal benefits, such as financial aid, as those who attend public school.
Energy/Environmental Issues: Hunter pledges to reduce energy dependence on the Middle East, and to bring together universities, government researchers and the private sector to address climate change and reduce dependence on foreign oil by developing new technologies. Calls for taking taxes down to zero for development of alternative energy sources, but requiring that licensing from labs goes to American manufacturing sector. Supports domestic oil and gas exploration and production to maintain American jobs. Has supported expansion of domestic oil refineries.
Experience: U.S. representative, lawyer
Gay Marriage: Opposes gay marriage. Opposes civil unions.
Health Care: Hunter proposes three major reforms that he says will bring the consumer back into the health care equation: 1. freedom to buy health insurance across state lines; 2. freedom to make informed health care choices; and 3. freedom to innovate to save money and improve medical outcomes. He proposes the creation of four test hospitals (one university hospital, one public hospital and two community hospitals) that will, under the direction of an established commission, be deregulated institutions that will implement new procedures and cost-saving measures within a test hospital in order to determine and implement system-wide protocol improvements. Says the pilot will bring innovation back to health care delivery and identify in a rapid, safe and appropriate manner, changes in the system that will increase health care quality and reduce costs.
Immigration: Hunter has strongly opposed immigration reform proposals that would allow illegal immigrants living in the United States the option of seeking legal status, which he calls amnesty. He voted against the 1986 amnesty law and has made border security a major issue in his campaign. As part of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform Act (P.L. 104-208), Hunter authored the legislative language mandating a 14-mile triple fence along the San Diego-Mexico land border. Cosponsored H.R. 19, which would require the Department of Homeland Security to implement a nationwide employment verification system and remove the incentive for illegal immigrants to come to the United States.
The war in Iraq: Hunter voted for the resolution that authorized the use of force in Iraq. He supports the Bush administrations management of the war. Pledges to leave Iraq in victory, and says the key to withdrawing heavy combat troops is by strengthening the Iraqi army so that it is battle-ready. His son has served two tours of duty with the Marines in Iraq.
Social Security: Hunter believes part of the solution to keeping the Social Security system solvent is by reforming trade policy to discourage the outsourcing of high-paying jobs overseas, which depletes the Social Security and Medicare trust funds. Supports introduction of personal savings accounts as a way to reform Social Security.
Stem Cell Research: Hunter opposes federally funded embryonic stem cell research. Supported the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act, banning the creation of human embryos for the purposes of scientific research. He voted in favor of the Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act, which would direct federal funding to stem-cell research that does not rely on embryos.
Taxes and Budget issues: Hunter says the current tax code, including the Marriage Penalty Tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax, is unnecessarily confusing and complicated. He calls for a major tax reform to make it simpler, fairer, and more growth oriented. Says he supports the FairTax, which would eliminate the Internal Revenue Code and federal taxes, replacing them with a national consumption tax, also referred to as a national sales tax. Says that a government that taxes too much is the biggest factor in the creation of poverty.
Duncan Hunter ping!
The conservatives can not grasp how to get Duncan Hunter recognition that would make him competitive with Hillary
I agree he would make a fine President.
Duncan Hunter is without a doubt my first choice for the presidency.
Why in the world would he want to do that? Fred should join with Duncan.
A man that fears Hillary doesn’t send her letters asking her to send more planted questions and sneak attacks.
That just won’t happen.
After the CNN debate the rest of the candidates were whining about democrat plants and sneak attacks but Duncan Hunter sent a letter to Hillary inviting her to send more. That doesn’t sound like a man who is afraid to face Hillary to me.
i agree...

Hes my choice, Hope He gets traction. Great platform
Ha! I don’t think Duncan Hunter fears anyone. However, he scares the you know what out of many, especially the elitist republicans and the media. Best to ignore him than put him in the forefront, he’d make them all look like the corrupt jackasses that they are.
