That’s sick. It’s pretty clearly not the girl who thought this up.

"We told a 6-year-old today that she was going to see Hannah Montana, and we're not going to renege on that," Ms. Ceballos said. Wonderful. So now the 6 year old understands that she'll be rewarded for lying.

I doubt that 6 year old girl delibaretly lied that her father died in Iraq for some prize. I think the mother is the one to blame.

I saw this on the news a few minutes ago and the mom rushed the daughter out when they asked her about her dad. It was sickening.

Should have given the trip to some kid whose dad DID die in Iraq then let mom explain it to the kid.

The Hannah Montana folks really screwed the pooch on this one.
The background check was essential. And now they know why.
I say give the kid the night with Hannah Montana, and file charges of fraud against the mother.
I’m not in favor of making the kid pay for mom’s bull s—t activity, but the message should be sent loud and clear that fraud isn’t going to tolerated even in this.

Wonderful. So now the 6 year old understands that she'll be rewarded for lying. That's kicker behind this whole story. Society now rewards children for lying (via their parents.)
Six-year-olds are pretty crafty these days and I'm quite certain the little girl knew perfectly well about the scheme to lie.
