Santa Ana, CA (AHN) -- A California Highway Patrol Officer has been charged with stealing more than $1 million worth of cocaine from an evidence room.

Joshua Blackburn, 32, stole more than 40 kilograms of cocaine from an evidence locker room at the California Highway Patrol office at about 4 a.m. last Friday, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday but his attorney, John Barnett, requested the hearing postponed because he said he had not received all police reports on the case.

Orange County Superior Court Commissioner Cheryl Leininger scheduled the arraignment for Jan. 9.

Blackburn, a six-year highway patrol veteran, was charged with burglary, possession for sale of cocaine and transportation of cocaine. He has been held on a $4 million bail at an Orange County prison since his arrest last week.

Not a good Christmas for this dude. The prison inmates will love him, too.

If only this stuff were illegal, these sorts of things wouldn’t happen.

Wonder if they will also charge him with tampering with evidence. He may blow the prosecution of the other guy’s case.

We had a Detective in our city do something similar. What a fool. No one I know on the force even speaks his name.

let’s see. Prohibition was a joke (brought about by anti-alcohol feminists and religious leaders). So now we have DRUG prohibition with similar results - massive crime, Latin America being overrun by drug lords and gangs, etc.

Legalize drugs. Let Merck and others distribute it. Given their enormous profits, they can subsidize REAL drugs to help people.

Expect the Ramos and Compean pardon supporters to be here demanding a commutation of his sentence because he was “guarding” the coke while “in the line of duty”.

Highway Patrol was shot on the lot because Broderick was such a serial drunk driver that he wasn’t allowed on the road.

That was TV. In real life, Crawford was pulled over multiple times for DWI in LA.

Don't worry Bob, the "Ramos and Compean pardon supporters" probably won't get their way, and these two vicious criminals will probably serve their entire 12 year sentences for their brutal crimes.

And legalizing drugs will make all that go away? I'll bet you would have promised the same thing in the 1920's if we legalized alcohol.

Boarder guards are guards, have nothing to do with law enforcement in a constitutional sense, their ability to us their weapons should be a much lower standard. Sort of like get out of my house are I’ll shoot you about the time the gun goes bang.

Legalize drugs

Your drug pushing has nothing to do with this story.

There’s one really strange thing about this. Let’s say you steal $1M or $2M worth of cocaine. What the heck do you do with it? It’s not like you can look up “Coke dealer” in the Yellow Pages or put it on CraigsList!

Its Kalifornia, its his right to have it, the liberal machine will protect him. He put in six years on the street and you dont think he has his network amongst the dealers? Ha. If he didnt have his network set up, he would not have kiped the coke. Someone else was waitin down the block to take that load and shove a bunch of cash in his pocket.

40 kilos? When I was bailbonding, dealers cost was about $30,000 a kilo. Spoken on the street as “thirty cents a bird.” He could work all his life for CHP and not make that kind of money.
