First and foremost, we should be governed by common sense. But common sense should be based on moral principles first, he answered.
And it is not possible today to have morality separated from religious values.
Asked if he has read the Bible, Putin replied: Yes, I have. And the Bible is on my plane.
As for why his government has arrested some industrialists and seized their assets, Putin made a Biblical reference and said: Well, thou shall not steal. Addressing the murder of a number of journalists in Russia, Putin said: Many people, including journalists, are tempted to make a little bit more money here and there, which means they get involved with entrepreneurs, sometimes with criminal businessman. Then there are genuine fighters against corruption, against the criminal elements. Where such losses have occurred, I take them personally.

Wow! Putin just topped Huckabee in the Daily Rasmussen poll. ;-)
Wow, quite the Biblical scholar. It is encouraging that he carries around the Bible though, but probably disturbing to most liberals.
Let’s see if this thread becomes a party for the anti-Christian “FReepers.”
Religious Conservative? Putin? More like godless socialist... or cleptocrat.
Maybe Putin and Huckabee are long lost brothers.
Can't wait to get flamed by the Filoque Caucus... ;-)
Remember Jesus’ mountaintop experience? The devil quoted scripture.
I guess I’d have a hard time with the identification. After all, it’s not my job.

I could probably make all their arguments for them and save them the time. I’d rather save the time for myself though and make them spend/waste their time doing it.
I’m gonna go eat a Taco Bueno.
I wouldn't know anything about that... just askin' ;-)
Okay. Remember to thank the Lord for it, whatever Vladimir says.
Well, Bush didn’t look into his soul...
I’m glad to see he uses the Authorized King James Bible and not the fruity modern versions.
LOL.....I prefer the Net bible or NASB.
Check this out, neo-Stalinist Putin carries a Bible and quotes it! Remind you of a similar snake from Arkansas about a decade ago?!
Not much has changed, other than their concerted pysop, civil military, and propaganda efforts are much more intense today, but the MO has remained the same. Today they are much more complex, in depth, and well resourced when it comes to blasting their message out to the West in their state run media, through their consulates and embassies which are greatly devoted to propaganda and intelligence functions (roughly 1/3), and leaders that portray the image of being something they are not. Instead of just whacking someone, they often just remove him in some kangaroo court, as the government seizes all his property, as was the case with energy tycoon Mikhail B. Khodorkovsky. Affecting public opinions is a high priority nowadays. Years past Khrushchev said he would bury us and beat his shoe on the table, today Putin smiles a lot and carries a Bible. I dont know which version of the evil empire I fear more? In the past we knew who we were dealing with, today some Germans think Russia is their friend, and most Americans think the threat is gone, all awhile Russia sells S300, SA15, SA18, fissile material, rocket technology etc. to Iran. What about N. Korea? How did those GPS jammers get to Iraq? Who was feeding Hezzbollah intel on Israeli troop movements?
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Russia has become good at playing the media and the political processes in the West. They have become experts at leaking information, timing certain press releases etc. But it's real simple to understand; Russia is not a true free state, their national interests are not in line with those of the West. While their "face-lift" persuades many and especially our shallow and narrow minded media with it's love affair for any liberal cause, the rational thinker should still see they as our enemy. The best way to get close so you can stab someone in the belly is to smile friendly and not be a belligerent, not even have a red face; but calmly, quietly and smiling close the distance as you reach in your pocket to get the knife.
Clinton would be proud.
Make sure to hold up an oversized Bible there Pootie!
