Reliving the Florida recount
One of the most highly anticipated political telefilms being released next year is Recount, a fast-paced depiction of the behind-the-scenes drama that took place in Florida during the disputed 2000 Gore-Bush election.
[snip]
Earlier this year, the possibility was raised that this Recount might be swayed and history rewritten because writer Strong and executive producers Paula Weinstein and Sydney Pollack, as well as HBO Films President Colin Callender, are all Democratic supporters.

There have been many incarnations of the script, the HBO representative said in response to questions about literary license taken in the film.
Still, HBO expects many of the real-life figures featured in the film will help promote the project once they see a final cut.
Were veterans in doing these projects, said the HBO rep. Weve done our homework.

Actually, the Secretary of State of Florida certified the election of the Bush electors, the Bush slate of electors gathered in the state capitol on the appointed day and cast their ballots and the Secretary of State of Florida sent the results to Washington while the issue was still in Florida courts. So it actually didn't require court intervention at all - if the Secretary of State stonewalled the SCFLaws then the election of the Bush-Cheney ticket was an accomplished fact. The reality is that it was the election law of the State of Florida which was broken; it had conflicting requirements to come to a conclusion on a date certain, on one hand, and to "count every vote" on the other hand. The conclusion by a date certain requirement was in place to prevent exactly what Mayor Richard Daley's son came to FL from Chicago to implement - an endless recount with no closure accepted other than the victory, by whatever means, for the Democratic candidate.
Then-president (ugh!) Bill Clinton inadvertently told the truth by complaining that SCOTUS "stopped the voting" in Florida. He intended to say, "stopped the counting" - but counting was only a means to the end of declaring Gore the winner. And declare Gore the winner was exactly what Mr. Daley did when he got off the plane from Chicago the morning after election day. That was highly offensive because he had no authority to know any more about the vote totals in Florida than I did. It was the sum of a bunch of secret ballots, and only the officials in Florida had any way of knowing the results - and the official result was not what Mr. Daley wanted.
I'm a sucker for happy endings...sniff...
noticed a bit of a documentary about Ralph Nader on PBS.
He was being portrayed as the skunk at the party because
many on the left feel votes for him prevented Gore from
winning states like Florida. (One person interviewed,
though, said that Gore deserved to lose because the chump
didn’t even win his home state, and the Dems also didn’t
win Bubba’s home state that time ‘round!)
It was fun to see the libs all moaning about how Ralph
had ruined their chances for success. It also showed how
the likes of Michael Moore supported Nader in ‘00(he would
later support Dean, then Wesley Clark, in ‘04) but by
‘04, Moore was so against the idea of Nader running that he
and Jon Stewart (IIRC) got on their knees during a TV
performance to beg Nader NOT to run!
And here we will also get to see libs complaining,
this time about the “stolen election”. Schadenfreude!
Moaning libs are always fun to see. That means we did something right. This new TV movie is just another cry fest for them.
They will then say, "the electoral college is wrong!" and needs to be gotten rid of, plus "the votes were counted wrong!" Yet surveys have proven them wrong.
>>In addition to insuring that the President would be chosen by the individual states, the Electoral College was also a safeguard against something that many in politics joke about, but few wish to address directly, voter fraud. Much has been made of this, because of the closeness of the election. Interestingly, it always seems to be the democrats who are the worst offenders. The last time there was such an outrage over voter fraud was during the Nixon/Kennedy election. In that election, it was later found that dead people had been registered, and that there were many voters who could not be found, registered at addresses which did not exist. The Daley stronghold of Chicago was particularly notorious for this type of thing.
The Dersh approves of torture and HBO will torture the facts.
produced by Paula Weinstein, who once led the Hollywood Womens Political Committee alongside Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda and others, which gave more than $6 million to liberal causes
“I think it’s a terrible shame that politics has become show business.” -
— Sydney pollack
Mr. Gore, whose supporters include such directors as Steven Spielberg, Sydney Pollack and Rob Reiner
Pollack has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to Democrats over the years. Some of the recipients were Clinton, Boxer, and California Reps. Barbara Lee and Maxine Waters.
Executive Producer Paula Weinstein, who has given to Sens. Clinton, Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.), praised Sydney Pollack for being the only director able to deal with the dramatic twists and turns of the story with honesty and truthfulness.
Good info! The show is definitely Hollywood sticking its nose into politics again.
Does HBO think anybody will actually want to ‘relive’ those recounts? IIRC, it wasn’t a particularly fun time for either side.
And I still have the mental image of the dope with the glasses on his forehead, intently gazing at a paper ballot while he was hoping to see a dimple in the card for Gork.
20% of the population suffers from BDS.
Will they cover directions given by Democrat operatives on how to reject the military votes that may not have had postmarked dates?
I bought my brother Band of Brothers (at a deep discount) for Christmas.
There is also Netflix.
The programs will be released to home video sooner than later. No need to fund (and be repeatedly subjected to) partisan propaganda like ‘Recount’.
I went on vacation the next day, taking my Mother, FDR (Rat) to see my Daughter and Grand-kiddies in Georgia, sucked with her whining about JEB stealing the election for his Brother.
They believe erroneously that Nader syphoned off all of the Gore votes. The Communist, Socialist, Socialist Workers, and Worker’s World parties combined syphoned off enough votes to deny Gore a victory.
What is to make people believe that the Watermelon Greens (Red on the inside) would’ve voted for Gore over all of the other Socialist/Communist parties or just stayed home (or left the ballot blank there)?
