Gen X is least prone to adultery

The term Generation X may soon come to be known as "generation with no sex", with a research revealing that people who are currently aged between 20 and 40 are less prone to adultery and multiple sexual partners than generations before and after them.

The new research shows that adultery is less common among people born between 1965 and 1985. They are also likely to have fewer sexual partners than the generation either directly before or after them.

The research was conducted by Edward Laumann, the professor of sociology at the University of Chicago.

According to the scientists, these people are less inclined to believe in "free love", and place more emphasis on commitment due to the emergence of AIDS and a boom in divorces among their parents.

The invention of the Pill enticed the sense of sexual adventure in those who were born before the 1960s. The resultant high level of relationship break-ups however, convinced Generation X to stay away from adultery. According to Laumann, those lessons have been lost by teenagers and those in their early 20s, who are increasingly using sex as entertainment thanks to the internet.

"It's clear that, while Generation X has sex, obviously, it's probably not as much or as varied in styles as that of their parents or today's teenagers and students," told Laumann.

The term Generation X, which was first used in the 1960s, has since become associated with those approaching adulthood in the early 1990s.

Exactly...between 20 and 40? Just give them time.

I certainly hope no taxpayer money paid for this premature study.

If you are open and comfortable about sex there is no need to cheat.

Where’s the data on the “generation after them”, considering it would be people 19 and under?

i’m not surprised. Most of us born in that time were either children of divorce or knew many people who were children of divorce and lived through the consequences.

“Give ‘em time.”

There’s a code of ethics my 25 year old and her friends have that I find admirable. For instance, a former boyfriend of one of their close friends is off limits, to spare their girlfriend’s feelings. Perhaps the X generation will adopt a more monogamous attitude than we think possible.

How exactly does the above equate to no sex? They are having sex just with one, or at least fewer, partner(s).

If this is true it has to related to fear of HIV, which is a sign the Xers have a sense of self prevervation.

Baby boomers will go down as the most immoral, corrupt, self-centered generation that gave us increased socialism, political correctness and materialism.

>>Most of us born in that time were either children of divorce or knew many people who were children of divorce and lived through the consequences.<<

Exactly true - as far as my wife and I are concerned. We’re both X-ers and products of multiple divorces. We’ve sworn to each other that we wouldn’t ever put our kids through what we had to go through.

It’ll be 9 years together, this summer.
