It never ceases to amaze me how a person who has decided to support a candidate all too often arrives at a point where FACTS are meaningless to them. Such is true with those who support this Romney character. There has been one example after another that proves that Mitt Romney isn't even a Republican much less a conservative and that he has repeatedly lied about his positions. Yet, well meaning Republicans still support this flip-flopping liar. Here is yet another article that shows that Mitt Romney is the single worse candidate the GOP field has today.
David Lightman of the McClatchy Newspaper chain asks this question: Exactly how Reaganesque is Romney? And the answer is a decided NOT AT ALL.
A few excerpts of this article:
"I take inspiration from the strength Ronald Reagan talked about," Romney said. "It was his view that the right way to overcome challenges was for the country to strengthen itself."And...Yet Romney wasn't always such a Reagan fan.
In 1994, when he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he said, "I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."
Romney spent years in the state registered as "unenrolled," or unaffiliated with a political party, and in 1992 he voted for former Sen. Paul Tsongas, a liberal Democrat, in the Massachusetts Democratic presidential primary.And...
Romney replied: "Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush. My positions don't talk about the things you suggest they talk about. This isn't a political issue."Romney has lied about being a hunter, he has lied about his not supporting the baby killers at Planned Parenthood, he even lied about his father marching with Martin Luther King, Jr. He led as Governor of Massachusetts as a center left executive yet now claims that he is a conservative.
Yet, all these flip-flops, all these lies and his supporters stick their fingers in their ears and scream "LA LA LA" at the top of their voices. So, here is the thing. Romney is not Reagan, he is far more like Clinton. Because during the first Clinton run lie after lie was revealed and his supporters simply refused to take stock of their man. They voted for him despite the lies, the rapes, all his past troubles were ignored.
Mitt Romney is Bill Clinton without the sex crimes.
Your analysis is spot on, except for the Limbaugh thing.
I've listened to him carefully the past month, and he has not spoken of Fred in terms of his most favored candidate.
Yes, Limbaugh has been careful not to endorse, but he has spoken glowingly of Romney... and sometimes Fred, on occasion.
As for rhe others, well, it's easy to read the inflections in Rush's tone and voice.
Limbaugh has no love for Rudy or McCain, and he dismisses Duncan out of hand.
And after Rush's rant against Huckabee the other day, which was just the latest in a long line of slams and jabs at Huckabee, it's obvious that Limbaugh realizes Huckabee would be an unmitigated DISASTER for the GOP.
Bottom line: I think Limbaugh likes Fred as a person and conservative candidate, but I sincerely believe Limbaugh sees what many others see: that Romney is the only one who can eventually pull all the segments of the GOP together next fall... to defeat the sHrillary Obacko machine.
Sure...that whole gay marriage thing and all. Gimme a break. He's a gay loving, illegal alien tolerating, socialized medicine advocate (fines starting January 1.)
Stop lying about his "conservatism."
As a friend of mine once said, “It don’t take all kinds, we just got all kinds.”
The anti-Romneyites here do more damage to their candidate every day than we Mitt supporters could do in a year. They remind me of Biff in “Back to the Future”.
When Mitt is triumphant they will give us the opportunity to be magnanimous. Life is good!
Rebut the Notion that Gov. Romney’s Inaction Allowed Same-Sex Marriage to Become Law in Massachusetts

IssueSource.org is a website co-produced by MassINC and The State House News Service and is a project of MassINC’s Civic Renewal Initiative. It is a non-partisan, not-for-profit, free public service.
IssueSource.org has a remarkably detailed chronological journal of the legal actions and legislative events in Massachusetts regarding same-sex marriage following the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) ruling in Goodridge v. Dept. of Public Health on Nov. 18, 2003 (Issue: Gay Marriage: Prior to May 17, 2004). The journal records in great detail the actions taken by people both for and against the same-sex marriage court ruling up to the date the ruling became law on May 17, 2004 making same-sex marriage legal in Massachusetts.
The journal is a very long read with several examples where Governor Romney opposed the ruling and attempted to delay the implementation with statements and directives; actions that were openly defied by others at times. However, focus on the events after March 29, 2004 when the constitutional convention in Massachusetts approved an amendment to ban gay marriage. Note the legal action Gov. Romney initiated immediately after March 29, 2004 to prevent the SJC’s Goodridge ruling from becoming law on May 17, 2004. More importantly, note that Gov. Romney’s efforts were thwarted because the Democrat Attorney General Tom Reilly and Senate President Robert Travaglini refused to cooperate and blocked the required legislative action.
Excerpts from the journal of events are presented below:
“On Mar. 29, the Legislature, meeting in constitutional convention, approved the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and provide for civil unions. The measure must still be approved a second time, during the 2005-06 session of the Legislature, in order to be placed on the November 2006 ballot for ratification by voters.

“Immediately after the vote, Romney called on AG Reilly to go before the SJC to halt the start of gay marriages on May 17, but Reilly quickly responded that he would not seek the delay, arguing that the SJC’s two rulings, in November and February, had made it clear that the court would tolerate nothing less than marriage for same-sex couples. A week earlier, on Mar. 22, Travaglini told the State House News Service that any attempt by Romney to halt the issuance of same-sex marriage licenses on the SJC’s ordered timetable would probably fail. “It is my understanding that no matter what legislative action we take, we cannot affect the issuance of licenses come the 17th of May. If the governor believes that he has the capacity or the authority to stop the issuance of licenses, then thats a personal political decision that he can make; I dont necessarily agree.”

Office of Gov. Mitt Romney, “Romney Files Emergency Bill to Seek Goodridge Decision Stay,” Press Release, 4/15/2004
“Romney announced April 15 that he would seek emergency legislation to allow him to appoint a special counsel to ask the Supreme Judicial Court for a 2 1/2 year delay of its gay marriage ruling set to take effect May 17. Romney’s plan was to bypass AG Reilly—who refused to name a special counsel in March—and name his own special counsel, retired SJC Justice Joseph Nolan. Romney said the legislation would allow him to “protect the integrity of the Constitutional process” and return the decision on gay marriage to voters. “We believe the people have the right to have their position heard and that as the governor, I should have right to have my position heard. Look, people that dont have any income are entitled to representation. Everyone in the Commonwealth is entitled to representation. But somehow as governor of the Commonwealth, its deemed that I cant represent my view before the courts—I think thats a mistake,” said Romney.
“State House News Service reported April 22 that Romney’s special counsel bill was “languishing” on Beacon Hill. The main obstacle was the Senate, which failed to admit the bill in its last two sessions. Senate President Robert Travaglini dismissed the legislation when it was announced and said the governor was only trying to push his “political agenda.” If the bill was not admitted, then there would not be a joint committee public hearing on it.
“Romney said April 21 that he would not file a supportive brief or otherwise get involved in a petition brought by the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts. The League was attempting to persuade the Supreme Judicial Court to delay the start of gay marriages until November 2006, when voters could vote on the issue. Romney said he preferred to make the case for delay himself. On April 23, Romney renewed his call for the Legislature to grant him the authority to appoint a special counsel so he could launch his own effort to persuade the court to delay gay marriages from taking effect May 17. “I call on both branches of the Legislature, particularly the Senate. . .to give me the opportunity to preserve the choice of the definition of marriage to the citizens and make sure that the hard work the Legislature went through to pass this amendment to allow the citizens to have a voice is worth something,” Romney told reporters at a press conference.

You are so spot on!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
After all...everyone KNOWS that in order to be a TRUE Republican...you have to wear plaid shirts.....live in a desert state..(the more cactus the better)...and watch reruns of Perry Mason.
What...you're NOT wearing a plaid shirt.
Then YOU'RE NOT A REPUBLICAN!!!
redrock
p.s. I always enjoy you asinine idiots making pretentious statements about who and what a Republican is...and isn't. Or who and what makes a conservative. Both come in all sizes and shapes.
The OFFICIAL REPUBLICAN PARTY (according to the officials locally) stance is if you VOTE for a Republican...that makes you one. Not to mention that you have one of those nice shiny cards that show you a member.....
Get a life.
Do people of your intellectual level make their voting decisions like that?
Check the record. Romney did not raise taxes as Gov. of Mass.
And what, pray tell, did he do wrong on the War on Terror? What COULD he do in his position?
And lastly, his immigration stance was pretty good. Not perfect, but better than most politicians... given the fact that most Americans themselves only became strongly anti-illegal immigrant in the past few years.
redrock
Yes they do. They start to look deeply at his record and find out that people like you have been posting, lies and distortions of his record.
You lay out your reasoning and the facts behind it very well. No candidate is perfect, that’s for sure, so comparative analysis is really the only way to go. Having said that, I don’t find the McCain or Huckabee record on taxes or much of anything else to be anywhere near as good as that of any of the other Republican candidates with a chance at the nomination.
Amen!
Maybe you should wait 'til next year.
Exactly. There are many Romney haters here. Not many seem to face the reality that the candidate pool this season is pathetic to say the least and Romney is a credible candidate of the lot that can beat the beast.
I am still struggling to pick one, and can’t find a good alternative to Romney at this stage.
I don't think it was leftist news articles that pointed out Mitt attended a Planned Parenthood event.
Or that he instituted socialized medicine in Massachussets.
Care to address those two little facts?
"If you were a conservative of any value, you wouldnt spend all days on end trashing another candidate."
And if you were one, you would defend or explain his socialized medicine scheme, gay-marriage-licenses, Reagan-bashing, NRA-bashing, and the fact that he did NOTHING when 4 cities in Massachussets declared themselves illegal alien "sanctuaries."
I won't hold my breath.
Hank (who will STILL vote for him in the general election if it comes to that, to stop the outright socialists from taking over)
There are very few conservatives in this race. Hunter is my favorite, but has NO PRAYER of winning anything. Fred is the second best, but he is asleep. Romney is the best of the rest. I am likely to end up supporting him.
I concur with everything you said. Well stated!
Good post.
