Pantone Selects Color of the Year for 2008
Pantone Incorporated (press release) ^ | 12/10/2007 | (no author given)

Posted on 12/24/2007 11:31:43 PM PST by dayglored

Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, selected PANTONE 18-3943 Blue Iris, a beautifully balanced blue-purple, as the color of the year for 2008. Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement.

"From a color forecasting perspective, we have chosen PANTONE 18-3943 Blue Iris as the color of the year, as it best represents color direction in 2008 for fashion, cosmetics and home products," explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "As a reflection of the times, Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspect of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic. Look for it artfully combined with deeper plums, red-browns, yellow-greens, grapes and grays."

Good lord. Pantone is recognized as the world authority on color.

Can it really be that the color for 2008 is BLUE ??? Why not a nice bright (dare I say Day-Glo) RED ???

NOTE OF CAUTION: Pantone 18-3943 Blue Iris may appear differently on you computer monitor than on the actual company color chip. Please keep this in mind as you view this thread and the color sample shown.

And if anyone is interested, NurdlyPeon, Inc., the global authority on days and provider of professional day standards for the design industries, selected NurdlyPeon 18-3943 Tuesday, a beautifully balanced winter day, as the Day Of The Week for the Christmas Week of 2007. Merry Christmas everyone.

Excellent point!

Especially true on a monochrome CRT... or one with the blue gun busted...

Hmmm... on my monitor it's a little too purply for blue jeans. But perhaps, per comment#6, it's all a question of one's monitor...

This is politically correct. Why select a color that could be used for the Blue States? They should have selected something neutral... Say a nice beige.

I'd like to think that they made this choice without political overtones. But I fear you may be right... grrrrr.

Yellow Ochre was always my favorite Crayola. Burnt Sienna was 2nd. Always wore those down first. I guess I’m earthy.
