We live in an age of documents. There are no more secrets, only deferred disclosures.
Saddam Hussein's secret documents are measured by the shelf-mile and stored inside a secure but dusty facility near U.S. Central Command Headquarters in Doha, Qatar, and in several subsidiary sites.
Armed guards protect the unread dossiers. Three shifts of two hundred translators each work around the clock. Perhaps 5% of these captured documents have been studied so far, but their contents are about to shatter much of the conventional wisdom concerning Saddam's weapons of mass destruction.
The absolutists on either side of the WMD debate will be more than a bit chagrinned at the disclosures. The documents show a much more complex history than previously suspected. The "Bush lied, people died" chorus has insisted that Saddam had no WMD whatsoever after 1991 - and thus that WMD was no good reason for the war. The Neocon diehards insist that, as in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the treasure-trove is still out there somewhere, buried under the sand dunes of Iraq.
Each side is more than a little bit wrong about Saddam's WMD, and each side is only a little bit right about what happened to it.

Thanks, that was the first country I thought of. Wonder what’s going on there with all those caves. I don’t know much about Syria, they took the daughter of Saddam (I think) in. It is possible some are there anyway and the leader wouldn’t necessary have to know?
Suppose a mugger is holding you at gunpoint, but you happened to know for a fact a way to disarm him. Sure, you might smudge his fingerprints on the gun, but that isn’t really what’s at the forefront of your decision to act, is it? You’re not thinking about his conviction, you’re thinking about your survival.
The left cannot bring itself to acknowledge facts, yet wants to be in charge of the country.
Thanks for the ping, ASA.
Free Republic has long known that Saddam had WMDs, recipes for WMDs, and a quick production capability.
We have also wondered for a long time why the Bush Admin has so steadfastly refused to acknowledge evidence for one of their major reasons for going to war.
“Did rational people ever really doubt this?”
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
No! But the supply of rational people seems to be declining at an exponential rate along with the attention span of the average American.
Absolutely...nobody...cares

“Can we be sure that terrorism and weapons of mass destruction will join together? Let us say one thing: If we are wrong, we will have destroyed a threat that at its least is responsible for inhuman carnage and suffering. That is something I am confident history will forgive.
But if our critics are wrong, if we are right, as I believe with every fiber of instinct and conviction I have that we are, and we do not act, then we will have hesitated in the face of this menace when we should have given leadership. That is something history will not forgive.”
Tony Blair
Everybody that believed in the war believed Saddam had WMD. They were just shipped to the surrounding countries.
Makes you ill, doesn’t it.
This AP reporter should be sent away for the rest of his life. Not to GTMO, though - the conditions are way too accomodative. He needs to got to Ft. Leavenworth and do HARD time.
Thanks for all the good work you have done on this.
In my opinion, you should still try to get a job with NSA/DIA.
Keep up the super effort!
Merry Christmas!
Three years ago, I viewed DOE pictures of yellow cake in plastic barrows marked NIGER that were found in a facility near the Syrian border.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We must view this with the mind of a typical Democrat, the presence of yellow cake is no problem, if the yellow cake is good it will feed the hungry, if it has gone stale we just won’t eat it. The real problem is the presence of the “N word” on the plastic barrows, this is horrific! Syria should be bombed immediately for having this word near their border, either inside or outside Syria!
“Just as history is currently being REVISED, we will be able to set it straight again.
As long as the truth is recorded somewhere, it is not lost.”
Preceisley.
This report should be mandatory reading for all freepers to spread the word. This is why I don’t mind if it was posted here already - I had not seen the post which means alotof other folks didn’t see it either.
Sooner or later, the record will be set straight.
Merry Christmas
You mean to tell me that all of those thousands of drums labeled “insecticide” could conceivably have some other, more sinister, purpose? SURLY you jest! < /sarcasm >
And what are the odds that they will translate everything accurately?
How would we find and vet 600 translators, assuring that none are working for those who hate us?
The First Gulf War never ended, there was only a cease fire. Saddam violated said cease fire. Game over!
There is no doubt by any REASONABLE person that Saddam Hussein DID have WMD...after all, he DID use them on the Iranians and his own people (Contrary to the moonbats who maintain that the gassing of the Kurds was carried out by secret US forces, etc.)
The question is: where did they go, because it is highly improbable that they simply used all they had on hand and didn’t make any more. The NBC suits, atropine syringes and other such equipment that our forces found stashed in various places attest to that.
That’s my opinion too, but the rats always ignore whatever facts that disagree with their opinion of reality.
