The Boulder couple who successfully sued for part of their neighbors' land mailed a letter this week to "those who have supported us," saying they hoped to restore peace in their neighborhood.
Richard McLean and Edith Stevens, plaintiffs in the controversial adverse-possession case against Don and Susie Kirlin, spelled out their side of the story in the four-page letter -- obtained by the Camera from a recipient who wished to remain anonymous.
"We still hope that we can reconcile our differences with the Kirlins and restore peace in our neighborhood and community," McLean and Stevens wrote.
Contacted at her home on Hardscrabble Drive, Stevens said the letter was meant as a private communication with friends. She objected to the Camera publishing its contents,citing the ongoing legal case.
The Kirlins say they plan to appeal a Boulder judge's October ruling that McLean and Stevens should be awarded about a third of one of the Kirlins' two vacant lots next door. McLean and Stevens used the legal doctrine of adverse possession to successfully claim they cared more for the land than its owners did.
Susie Kirlin said Saturday that she disagrees with nearly all the points made in the letter.
"This is obviously an attempt to justify taking their neighbors' land," Susie Kirlin said. "We obviously disagree with many, if not all, of their misrepresentations. The bottom line is they took something that didn't belong to them, got caught, and are now trying to justify their behavior."
Since the story became public, McLean and Stevens have become the targets of protesters and others who think the couple used their legal knowledge to steal a prime piece of real estate...

The several counties around Boulder are laughing / mad at this ex-Judge, ex-Mayor, ex-RTA Board member ...for being a thief.

Since Dick McClean is an RTD board member, We can surmise that the idea to steal the Kirlin’s land originated there,
or did he encourage the RTD board to proceed with their theft after his success at home?

Also on Saturday, state Rep. Claire Levy, D-Boulder, announced that she has accepted the resignation of Edith Stevens as her campaign treasurer.
“(Stevens) has resigned, and I accepted her resignation,” Levy said.
Levy said last week that she had received several requests from constituents to “disassociate” herself from Stevens, who worked on Levy’s 2006 campaign.
Levy said Stevens did not offer a reason for the resignation, which she said was done by phone.

As I understand it, when this travesty first happened, the newspapers didn't want to touch it, they covered for Dick and Edie. It wasn't until the Landgrabber.org site was created and Bob Greenlee courageously wrote about it in his column in the Daily Camera that the word got out. The Camera is getting rich off this.
I wonder, if their names (McLean/Stevens) will go down in American history with the same ugly black stain as, say, Benedict Arnold?

That’s why the whole business needs a grand jury and the U.S. Attorney General Troy Eid (R) needs to have a look at this. The local D.A., the Bar Association, and the political structure are all McLean/Stevens cronies. Edie chaired the Boulder Democrat Party.

It wouldn't surprise me. No doubt there are others who would like to do this themselves and hope it works so they can be next to try it.
If they did, they don't anymore.
Since the RTD/FasTrack systems have been in the planning stage for over ten years, I think it likely that is where Dick and Susie garnered their arcane education in property law. Want to bet they also got Continuing Education credits for any courses? And paid for by the State through RTD, of course. Talk about adding insult to injury ...
