Mesa High School teacher and softball coach Gay Lyn Turley was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of having a four-year sexual relationship with a teenage girl that began when the teen was her student.
Special Report: Reading, Writing and Wrongdoing
The arrest of Turley, 42, by Gilbert police came just hours after the last class of the semester was let out at the high school. She has been the softball coach at Mesa High since 1989.
Turley was arrested on suspicion of sexual contact with a minor.
And it came two days after the victim, now 20, first told police about the lengthy relationship.
Police spokesman Sgt. Mark Marino said when Turley was questioned, she admitted the allegations were true.
Turley, who lives in Gilbert, could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.
The relationship first began in 2003, when the girl, whose name was not released, was 16 and a student at the high school, according to police.
She started staying overnight at Turleys house in May of that year, and the relationship eventually became sexual, Marino said. At 18, the relationship grew as the girl moved in with Turley.
Things apparently soured between the two women sometime this year when, according to police, the girl moved out of Turleys home.
Also...We have daily reports of teacher sexual abuse of students. Missing from news reports are the student on student sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. ( Probably so common it is not considered news) There are the daily reports of poor student performance, ineffective teaching methods, poor quality of teacher training programs, and bureaucratic waste and fraud. I, personally, have the reports from my friends and relatives working in the government schools.
Has anyone noticed? In almost every case these incidents occur in schools that are located in "good" neighborhoods?
Parents who think that moving to a "good" neighborhood will assure a sexual, physically, or emotionally safe government school are deluding themselves. And,,,it is no guarantee of a good education either.
I don't know where Mesa is. Maybe some Freeper does. I am placing my bet that it would be considered middle class, at minimum.
Guilty!!!
Mesa is a suburb of Phoenix. I don’t know if it’s considered middle class, as I’ve not been there, but have relatives that live there, and have for a long time.
Always need a picture!
Mesa is metro Phoenix
Our schools seem to hire perverts.
In Florida, did you know school teachers and employees are exempt from many laws requiring the reporting of pedophilia and sexual abuse? They are trying to change it, but the teachers unions are tough to break.
When school districts are sued silly for their pandering to the pedophile and homophile crowd....thats the only way our schools will be forced to change
I also saw the mugshot.
Guilty!
I graduated from high in 1984, and I still have nightmares if I visit a school for any reason.

Government schools will not be forced to changed because it is the taxpayer who will ultimately pay the bill.
When the superintendent and his principals start getting sued **personally**. Whey then lose their homes and savings, that is when we will see some change.
But,,,,Personally, I think it is best not to institutionalize a child for his education.
As they say in the golf world and I guess it applies in this case, “Dyke's on Spikes”!
Any bets she the P.E. teacher also.
GAY Lyn Turley?

I attended a large Catholic high school in Philadelphia. ( about 3,000 students) I was never afraid of the other students but I was terrified of the nuns.
After lunch, we were “allowed” to use the restrooms. There were always nuns in there ( with their little “crickets” in their hands). I wondered about this when I was kid. Why would they have the nuns in the restroom? I now know why? They were there to protect us from the other students.
Ditto for the gym locker rooms!
One more thing: If a nun or teacher stepped on to a stair, ALL the students cleared the stairs and the nun used the stair **alone**! I now see that this custom had two purposes: 1) the safety of the nun 2) it instilled respect for her in the students.
And the Teachers Unions that supply them.

Have you noticed that activities that would really appeal to girls are rarely found in the government schools. For example, our local government school does not have gymnastics, ice skating, dance, or precision swimming for its girls. But,,,it has plenty of warmed over boy-sports for them!
Gee! The very activities that girls like and that would fill the stands with paying fans are absent from the curriculum.
Why? Answer: “Dykes on Spikes” control the curriculum!
Now,,,there will be a government school defender or two that will insist that their daughter is a cheerleader, in a theater program, or on the football jazz dance team. That may be true. I have friends with daughters like that too. All of them gained their positions on these government teams because of tons of very expensive private lessons from the parents.
That's what she was. I covered this story on our Mesa/Phoenix based blog a few days ago: Gay Lynn Turley.
