FRED THOMPSON'S disappointed fans have something to cheer about at last.
After sinking to single digits in the polls, the former "Law & Order" actor is making a comeback.
Over the past month, Thompson has walked away from several very strong performances in GOP debates. In the latest one, he held command over the entire field and won the day by refusing to play "hand shows" on stage at the direction of the moderator.
"I said, 'Nope,' and everybody pulled their hand down and looked around," Thompson later recalled.
"I just said to my buddies up there, 'How are you going to stand up to the leaders of Iran and North Korea if you can't stand up to an overbearing moderator?' "
Thompson also has quietly racked up scores of endorsements from anti-abortion chapters around the country. Those groups are some of the most effective vote herders the GOP has.
And earlier this week, he netted a surprise endorsement from Iowa Rep. Steve King, known in some GOP circles as "the Kingmaker."
After enduring months of criticism for sporadic and lackluster campaigning, Thompson is now going full-bore on a bus tour of 50 cities and towns around Iowa that his campaign says will reach some 75 percent of projected Republican caucus-goers before Jan. 3.
More than anything else, long-suffering supporters say their spirits have finally been lifted by Thompson's swagger and enthusiastic demeanor on the trail.
After someone suggested he might still be the conservative dark horse to ride to the White House, he quipped, "Saddle me up!"

Excellent post.
Maybe it already is drying up, and that is why an attempted dust up with RUSH... get Huckabee some free air time on RUSH???
The bus tour is going very well. I attended one in Atlantic. It was very well attended and as people left they were carrying signs and bumper stickers. There is enthusiasm and energy.
If Republicans really want a true conservative, Thompson or Hunter are their only choices and Hunter does not seem to be serious about the quest as he is not campaigning at all.
I'm not sure it was ever true. I'm suspicious this was totally MSM driven, just as I'm suspicous that this so-called Huck surge wasn't MSM driven. All the MSM has to do is plant the seeds.
Your action is not unusual. We have to pick them off, one by one and it’s happening.
LOL, that was good. :) I love Hunter and Thompson, hopefully one of them will get the nomination.
“Im looking forward to that, as well. We are in the eye of the storm right now during Christmas, but I think a lot is happening under the radar.”
Correct, I have been saying all along, “be prepared for a big surprise”.
IMHO all these small groups he has been chatting with through out Iowa are going to pay off big time as one large group.
Welcome and, it helps, both you and Fred.
What surge are they talking about ,I dont see it anywhere ,all I see is John Mccain
Wherever it's transferred, I'd sure like to see the Huckster's support dry up.
One "Man from Hope" was one too many.
The warhorse is feeling his oats :)
I have been very supportive of Huckabee, because at first I just thought he was a likable guy and I was willing to overlook the occasional negative (I think his immigration stance was the first one I found out about). The more I read about him, the less inclined I think I am to vote for him. The only reason I turned to Huckabee in the first place is because Thompson took so long to get in the race, and I was looking for someone other than Giuliani/McCain/Romney who I thought had a chance of winning. I am very willing to vote for Fred. I do believe he represents my values more than Huckabee does, but I also do want Fred to show that he has that fire in the belly that we hear so much about.
When you look at the Republican candidates and the Democrat candidates, you realize that the Dems don’t really have a candidate....just a Bubba leach.
Fred has always been ready. He just doesn’t fit the televised media mold of cute and coy and simpering. He is at his best when he is himself and therefore shows how stupid the mold is.
PS - Romney and Huckleberry ARE the mold, with nothing to show once it gets broken.
About time Freddy!
Where ahve you been/ You know, that Fred does well in Freeper polls but awful in national polls. Do you think Freepers are being excluded from national pollers calling likely voters? Hmmmmm....
First, I have not yet decided which candidate to support.
That said, the factual information on the various candidates' pro-life and illegal immigration records and positions, including Thompson's, has been documented, posted and discussed repeatedly, ad nauseum, on this board. Thompson did not need to change anything on those issues. He has always been pro-life, and he has never been "pro-illegal-immigration". Your statement above is simply a lie.
Both of you have participated in those threads, and both of you know the facts, yet you keep repeating the same lies, disinformation and FUD. It's perfectly okay if you don't like a candidate, whether it's Thompson or anyone else, but have the guts to be honest about it. These endless disinformation attempts are childish and unworthy, and have become simply tiresome.
You're either ignorant of were Thompson has stood on these issues or your trying to feed us misinformation. Either way I'm hitting the abuse button on you pal..
Rush put the dagger through the heart of Huckabee’s campaign Friday. Huckabee staffers took Rush on and lost. Kinda reminds me of what it must have been like at Little Big Horn.
Only, and I mean ONLY, a 'consensus conservative' can do the two things necessary to win the White House,,,,,,
(1) UNITE the Party,,,,and
(2) RALLY and energize the base.
(Anything less than that--and we lose next November.)
I can’t believe this actually ran in a Murdoch-owned media entity.
Maybe they have finally figured out the folks in flyover country aren’t buying the conservative lipstick put on the liberal pig from the Big Apple.
