The White House apparently is so reluctant to discuss the issue of pardons or commutations for convicted U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean that a spokesman doesn't even want to allow questions about the issue to be finished.
The circumstances arose during a White House press gaggle with spokesman Tony Fratto, when Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House, tried to raise the issue of the disparity in the treatment of the Border Patrol agents, compared to that given Scooter Libby, an aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was convicted of lying during an investigation into the outing of the identity of a covert U.S. agent.
The agents were convicted and given prison sentences of 11 and 12 years for shooting after a self-confessed drug smuggler fleeing back into Mexico after leaving 750 pounds of marijuana in Texas, while Libby was excused from serving any of his prison sentence through President Bush's intervention.
The White House repeatedly has said there is a pardons request procedure available to the agents, even though Libby apparently did not go through the same process before Bush acted.
"A number of times here, when questions were raised about former U.S. Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean, we were told that there is a process for pardon. And I have a three-part question on this " Kinsolving began.
"You have to make it quick, because they're calling for me," Fratto said.
"I will. Could you explain to us why the president refuses to commute these men who shot an escaping Mexican drug smuggler " Kinsolving continued.
"No," interrupted Fratto.
" as the president commuted the prison sentence of his friend, Scooter Libby," Kinsolving asked.
"No," Fratto responded.

Denial is not going to do this administration any good. His personal agenda of kissing mexico butt is making the issue more and more clear. Something is not normal here. Something is not right. This is not “from the consent of the governed” and having his staff avoid the issue and constantly shoveling praise on the stench from down south will result in unintended consequences. He will not be President forever and when he is not he can not keep the lid on what he has done.
Bush is adamant on this issue. Obscenely so. There is some deal cooked up in the background. I’m sure of it. These two have been sacrificed as part of some back-room agreement between Bush and his Mexican buddies. We’ve probably been sacrificed, too, but since we’re not privy to the deal, we don’t know how much our bill is going to come to.
When I think of this issue, I hate Jorge Bush.
Doncha just love the admirable sense of accountability in this Administration? Just puts a lump in your throat.
Only a year to go, although one wishes some more of the lowlifes would go earlier, such as Condi Rice. Nice that Gonzales was dispatched. Good for him too, because now he can actually cash all those paychecks from Mexico City.
At least with Clinton you could just pay a few thousand bucks. Jorge is too principled for that.
I still say the more sinister agencies have gotten to Bush with a 2:AM phone call and threats to his family. He’s not acting right.
The way Sutton has twisted 18 U.S.C. 924(c) in this case to prosecute the LEO instead of targeting the criminal as was its intended aim ought make ALL LEO’s cringe because in its precedence, if they use their service weapon during the attempted apprehension of someone, they subject themselves to litigation and possible prison - right or wrong.
The only thing Jorge is going to commute by Christmas is building the fence.
Yooooo betcha.
Something is very much amiss with the Jorge administration and all his buddies down there in Mehhhhhhickkkkko.
Drug money?
Ya think?
Anywhoo, the message is out to LEAVE ALL THEM SMUGGLERS ALONE!!
OR ELSE
muchas gracias jorge bush...
but it seems you were able to pardon the moonshiners!!!!
Too bad Waxman, etc. are looking up the wrong trees for grounds for impeachment. This would be much more hopeful to them (plus the “NAU” tyranny).
I see you and others are seeing it too. Something definitely isn't right. I've stated that here for a year or two. I find it hard to believe that the real George W. Bush is this stupid and pig headed. I don't know that anyone has threatened his family or there'd have been leaks about increased security for the twins or whomever, but something has got him on a very short leash.
I've sensed that since 2001, six months into his administration, but I was focusing on his economic policies. I'm not surprised that it's shown up in other areas. It has nothing to do with 2AM phone calls. That's the way he is.
One suspects Mexico has some damaging information that they are blackmailing the President with. Nothing else could explain his bizarre behavior in this matter.
...”Hes not acting right.”
My wife just says the same thing and It’s not a recent event.
I dont know what Bush’s problem is on this...but it is making him look foolish...and suspicious
If the appeals court overturns the convictions...and Bush continues to prosecute...it will set up the Admin for major embarrassment.
With all the facts coming out about this case, Bush will never get another conviction of Ramos and Compean....and a subsequent trial will produce evidence and information that could be very damaging to the Administration...and for any person/group pushing free trade w Mexico and a continental free trade zone
At the least, Bush is getting some very bad advice. At worst, Bush looks like he is in cabal with the Mexican drug lords
Nothing will move him when he's in this mode.
IMO, all the letters from congresspeople and other bigwigs will make him more and more intractable because he doesn't want to look like he gives in to this particular type of pressure.
I agree with your assessment, "He's not acting right." But not in the conspiratorial way some folks here think. I believe it's psychological. I hope we can survive the next eleven months.

This issue and Bush’s failure to do the right thing and pardon the two agents speaks volumes about Jorge Bush. Bush is not a decent man and is a bad President.
Well for starters he is resolute in his loyalty to his "dear friend" Johnny Satan.
