After today, Rush Limbaugh is in reruns until January 3, the day of the Iowa caucuses.
Highlight from a moment ago: "The drive bys are doing everything they can to influence the Republican primary. Mike Huckabee has been getting a pass from the drive-bys... They don't want Rudy because they think he can beat Hillary. They don't want Romney because of the same thing. They don't want Fred Thompson because of the same thing."
Can a guy who's been slammed as hard as Mike Huckabee has by Rush Limbaugh, the most popular conservative radio talk show host in the country, go on to win the Iowa caucuses? Anybody think Rush will have dropped this issue by the third of January?
My instinct is to say, "no way, a thumbs down from Rush is fatal," but a guy on another campaign cautions me. "An Iowa pastor who has been talking up Huckabee isn't going to change his mind because Rush Limbaugh doesn't like him." He points out that a pastors and religous leaders deal with people who fall short of their ideals all the time; hearing that Mike Huckabee was too merciful in dealing with Wayne Dumond is not going to be a dealbreaker for them. They'll probably go, no pun intended, "there but for the grace of God go I."
So... if a certain significant chunk of Huckabee's supporters back him because he's the most vocal Christian in the race, not because of the conservatism of his record or policy stances.... if the moment comes where the race needs a Huck Slayer (as social conservatives thought the race might require a Rudy Slayer)... can anybody in the race go after Huckabee on that ground? Can anyone make the argument to that Republican plurality, "Okay, nevermind conservative policy choices - he's not the good Christian leader you think he is"?
Tough ground to fight on. Just thinking out loud here, can a rival point out the ethics questions from Huckabee's Arkansas days? Is Huckabee's "innocent" question about Mormon beliefs the act of a good Christian? Is there something borderline blasphemous to compare opponents' direct mail to a Biblical verse describing "weapons" deployed against the righteous, or comparing one's campaign fundraising to the miracle of loaves and fishes?
Would Jesus hire Ed Rollins?

LOL
I did not mean physical such as genital warts or any number of STDs the Clintons may have caught or given to potential lovers.
By warts for The Huckster I mean his areas of Jimmy Goobers Carter beliefs.
Such as his stands on pardons, immigration, health care, taxes, big government...........................
It looks like to me that The Huckster is more in tuned with El RINO Arnold Swansong Kalifornia Gobanator than even a very moderate conservative.
I support Fred Thompson because he is the only candidate that espouses more believable stances on the issues important to me and my family.
Fred is the only one that inspires me that it indeed could be Morning in America again!
LLS
I still think that the son with dark hair looks like a child molester.
Exactly. If Rush didn't do this, I would not listen to him. Isn't it funny how just about all Rush fans say this and agree with this? Hmmm... Must mean something.
No, no. Please re-read my post.
My whole post was pointing out the absurdity of considering Christ as a politician.
Christ (as King) does not have employees, but "slaves".
(Or subjects, or brothers, depending on what verse you quote.)
Cheers!
...oh, and Merry Christmas.
Yep...fatal!
Rudy is a friend of Rodger Ailes.
And Rudy is a pervert.
And if Rush is supporting Rudy, then Rush can burn in hell for all I care.
There sure are a lot of people speaking for Evangelicals, especially people that are pushing Huckabee. Not only misguided, misinformed or flat uniformed people on the right but also liberals itching to run against this guy in the general election.
If you don't think the MSM wants Huckabee to win the GOP nomination, ask yourself one question: Why is it the mainstream media found a quote by a Republican candidate (Huckabee) that included the words homosexual, HIV, isolation, sin, abherrant behavior, etc. and haven't reported or commented on it endlessly since its' discovery?
Look, they're pushing him like they pushed McCain in 2000. Why? Cuz he's vulnerable and easily exploited. It's the same reason why the MSM isn't endlessly hammering us with Rudy Guliani/Bernard Keric corruption stories. These candidates are vulnerable, the media knows it and it wants to saddle us with an easy target.
It's that simple.
“And Rudy is a pervert.

Go soak your head, loser!
See post #289. Hope it helps.
Did I just find a Rudy lover?
Your hero is on his way out. Say goodbye to Rudy.
StapleGut Huck is the GOP’s ticket over a cliff.
Fat, Rush was slamming Huckster’s campaign for whining about being asked tough questions about his record. And, he ALWAYS rips the Dems, if you listen. Huch, BTW, is basically a Dem lite, maybe not so lite, if you examine his record. Best, Bob
But I bet that most Huckabee supporters do listen to and love Rush but are not deterred because, as you've said: "Christians don't have another horse to bet on".
I really like your posts. I think it will be very interesting and a little terrifying to watch where God takes our country.
I didn’t hear the show. This thread has been an interesting read though. Thanks Sam:)
You like Fred I see:)I am for everybody but Rudy and Paul.
Perhaps Huck supporters here on FR, I would buy that, but I do not think that Rush is terribly popular among Evangelicals as a whole. My own experience would have them listening primarily to Christian stations on the radio, and their speakers come primarily from among the Christian movement. To them, politics are nothing but a distraction from the real deal.
That isn't to say there are no evangelicals listening to Rush, as most of his listeners tend to be Christian too- But as big as Rush is, his followers are a mere pittance against the Evangelical movement.

Thank you for the compliment, but as I say, I just have a firm grasp on the obvious :D .
As a matter of full disclosure, I hope you realize that I find Huck to be part of the problem as well- Huck is to Christians as Fred is to the libertarian crowd, neither capable of backing the other.
I really wish that Hunter had been more attractive to the Christians, as he is capable of being a consensus candidate, and uniting the base. I have always said that he and Tanc were the only two true Conservatives in the race, and I will stand by that.
It is an interesting time, and Conservatives put aside conviction at their peril. To sacrifice principle for expediency is always the wrong thing to do.
