A Question
self

Posted on 12/20/2007 10:02:47 AM PST by Shery

We live overseas and don't own a TV. We have heard there is a screenwriter's strike. Is that the reason we are not receiving some of our TV shows that we purchased from iTunes, or is it the seasonal shows that are taking the place of regular programming?

There is a writers strike.
There are no new shows coming out right now.
If the company you’re getting service from doesn’t have a syndication contract where they can show reruns...............

Yes.

Many shows, like 24 had some (I believe 24 had 8) episodes in the can before the strike began, but they are not going to show those episodes, then have an interruption before they continue with the remainder of episodes at a later date after the strike has been settled.

Other popular shows, like Lost and Gray’s Anatomy are in the same situation as 24, but I don’t know if they are going to show the episodes already filmed, or postpone them like 24 is going to do.

Due to the lack of real writers the TV season has been canceled.

The majority of the shows that had their fall debuts in September had enough shows taped to get them through Nov/Dec. Some of them (House, Prison Break, etc.) went on early winter hiatus so they could save a few shows for after the new year. We’ll get a few more episodes of those and a “season finale” - which was basically a quick re-write of the last episode to be taped so that it acted as a finale.

24 will not be debuting in January, like normal. They decided to can the whole season. Lost will be back in February for 8 episodes. Same with Jericho.

Shows like The Office, My Name is Earl, etc. have aired all their episodes.

Of course, if you like it, there will be plenty more reality tv to come.

FYI - It looks like we really won’t be seeing any more scripted shows for at least a year. Even if the strike ended today it would be hard to shoot the new pilots for shows to be picked up in the fall, which is what everyone would be concentrating on now. Plus, the actors are due to strike next summer.

you might want to email Itunes to find out how you get a refund when they end up cancelling the rest of a season. There simply won’t BE any remaining episodes for 2007 in many shows so you pay in advance for something which will never exist (if you paid for the entire season upfront).

The writers have allowed their guild to be hijacked by a Saul Alinsky-trained radical communist named David Young who could care less about residuals, download fees, etc., and whose real goal is to destroy the entertainment industry. That is what this strike is about. The actors’ guild is also led by a bunch of Bel Air Bolsheviks who have displaced their Bush hatred and yen for social activism onto what is supposed to be a labor/management dispute.

We do that as well. Plus, Netflix has a lot of movies and TV shows you can watch for free online. I’m wondering if this strike will backfire when they discover that the only people who even care are the people walking the picket lines. Personally, I like reality TV! :o)
