Time's Two Conservative Columnists Shown the Door
Newsbusters ^ | 12/19/2007 | Matthew Sheffield

Time magazine has terminated its relationships with its two conservative columnists, Charles Krauthammer and William Kristol. The New York Observer has the details:

The exact reasons for the departures of Mr. Krauthammer and Mr. Kristol, both high-profile backers of the Iraq war, are not entirely clear.

“I was very happy to work with them,” said Mr. Krauthammer on the phone from his Washington office. “And I have a lot of things that occupy me.”

Asked if he would have preferred to stay with the magazine, Mr. Krauthammer, a Pulitzer Prize winner who writes a regular column for The Washington Post, suggested there wasn’t much of a choice. “It’s a hypothetical that didn’t arise,” he said.

The Time spokeswoman would not detail the reasons for ending the contract of Mr. Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard, but said that the decision was mutual. Mr. Kristol did not return a call for comment. [...]

What a great discourse from Mark Helprin on how to shill for RATS and why the Times must do this above all.

Of course his attempt at a justification of this fits the dinosuar(media)extinction model beautifully.

Good for them. The only purpose of Time Magazine is to make the prospect of an immanent root canal seem less painful, by comparison.

As a conservative, Krisol strikes me as room temperature milk. Even that was too conservative for Time. LOL The rag must be farther out left than I thought. And that’s saying something.

Don’t forget to leave your phone off the hook when dialing the 800 number. There recorded message will go on for quite some time. I guess this will cost them a few pennies per call.

I worked for IBM Corp on the Curtis Publishing Account in the late 60’s when Post Magazine had 7 million subscribers. . . how times have changed. I’d be ashamed for anyone to see me read the garbage put out by both Time / Newsweek. I can find all their propaganda on the tube which I also eschew.

>>>Sounds like a career enhancer for the both of them to be rid of Time.<<<

Thoughtful of Time to allow them to spend more of their time writing for publications where they will have a wider audience and one that will be interested in their views.

Putin - man of year; fire conservatives - Krauthamer and Kristol....Time's brain farts come in pairs.

Charles Krauthammer and William Kristol? They’ll do fine without Time.
Time’s conservative readers left long ago anyway.

Didn’t they say that about a paper hanger in Germany-—that he brought “stability?”

“Time advised Mr Krauthammer that, ‘We’re sinking fast by the head, and there are only a deck chairs left, sir. I’m sorry, but we’ve had to make some hard choices.’”

Asked if he would have preferred to stay with the [titanic] magazine, Mr. Krauthammer, a Pulitzer Prize winner who writes a regular column for The Washington Post, suggested there wasn’t much of a choice. “It’s a hypothetical that didn’t arise,” he said.

They’ll probably replace them with a stalwart conservative like Linda Chavez.

Krauthammer is personification of the adage: “The Pen is Mightier than the Sword!”

I’m reading a lot of Latin American history and Euro history for my next book, and the Latinos would go through this cycle where they wanted our money, but as soon as we came down there and began “Americanizing” them, they nationalized everything, kicked us out, and the army took over. Pretty soon, they wanted democracy again, then wanted our money again. Rinse, repeat.

Nobody reads it. They are laying off staff by the dozens. They give the thing away by the hundreds of thousands, so I suspect their circulation is even lower than reported. The are ripping off their advertisers and circling the drain. Where is Dr. Raol’s “Bias = Layoffs” sign?

In conjunction with another post:

"Time's total...weekly circulation during the six months ended June 30 stood at 3.4 million, down 17.1%...Newsweek's circulation stood at 3.1 million..."

Would that make the number of dentist's offices in the US about 3.2 / 3.4 million - or do they share?
