Mike Huckabee doesn't wish you happy holidays. He wants you to have a Merry Christmas. And keep the Christ in it, please.
That's the subtext - as well as the text - of Huckabee's latest TV ad, which began airing this week in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Wearing a red sweater, the surging Republican presidential hopeful looks into the camera, acknowledges America's fatigue with political spots, then declares that, this time of year, "what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ."
"God bless," he says at the end, "and Merry Christmas."

The Huckabee ad is similar to ads we used to see on tv during the Christmas season. It was music to my ears. Huckabee is too liberal for me, but I appreciated the sentiment expressed in his wonderful, warm hearted Christmas message.
Don’t bother me one bit!
I thought it was an excellent commercial too.
It was good to see someone *brave* enough in this day and age to have a Merry Christmas ad and mention Jesus (the reason of the season).
I won’t vote for Huckabee, but I’m glad he did it.
I also loved that our major mall here was piping in beautiful religious Christmas music. It was absolutely wonderful.
Merry Christmas!
I do not have a problem with the ad. I do have a problem with the guy playing dumb about what the ad was, he did say he approved the ad.
More of our leaders should do this.
The only thing I’ve seen him playing dumb about regarding this ad is whether or not the cross was intentional. I think it probably was, but it is possible that it was really just a bookshelf. At any rate, I love the ad. It is one of the best political ads I’ve seen - ever. Very effective at showing his heart. Whether we agree with all his politics or not, I believe this man is a Christian who truly believes what he says.
Look at the video carefully - observing the side of the upright board with the 3 colored Christmas bulbs leaning against it. With a real 3D bookshelf, the depth of that side would change as the camera moved sideways. It did not change (the perspective was frozen) because the "bookcase" was a carefully placed poster or backdrop - and not just a bookcase they posed in front of.
With all graphic art, the field of vision (cropping) and movements of the image and objects defines the message. You frame images to include objects and movements of these objects to convey a message. Nothing is done by accident - especially in the case of a carefully selected poster/backdrop.
The poster was placed behind him and framed to have a cross revealed and the camera panned to have that cross move - and be noticed by the viewer - without ever losing its appearance as a cross. Tricky but obvious. Pandering but not inspiring.
Huckster's a weasel even about a Christmas message.
My problem with him is that he destroys his own credibility being a communications professional by his play this ad backward and you will hear "Paul is dead", "Paul is dead". Removes allllll of what the ad purports and is suppose to demonstrate. I do not like con artists and he so reminds me of Bill Clinton and his religiosity.
WTF! Where did you get this loony statement from?????
I happen to have Foxes and Friends on this a.m. and it came right out of Huckabee's own mouth, and NO I did not make it up nor am I joking.
