Does Our Looks-Obsessed Culture Want to Stare at an Aging Woman? (Rush)

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, this theory of mine based on this Drudge picture of Mrs. Clinton, with the headline: "The Toll of a Campaign." Now, it could well be that that's a sympathy photo, too, to make people feel sorry for how tough the campaign trail is. Now, I want to preface this by saying I know it's going to get out there. Media Matters is going to get hold of this and they're going to take it all out of context. We can expect that. It's a badge of honor when this happens, but for the rest of you, I want you to understand that I am talking about the evolution of American culture here, and not so much Mrs. Clinton. It could be anybody, and it is really not very complicated. Americans are addicted to physical perfection, thanks to Hollywood and thanks to television. We know it because we see it. We see everybody and their uncle in gyms. We see people starving themselves. We see people taking every miracle fad drug there is to lose weight. We see guys trying to get six-pack abs. We have women starving themselves trying to get into size zero and size one clothes; makeovers, facials, plastic surgery, everybody in the world does Botox, and this affects men, too. As you know, the haughty John Kerry Botoxed his wrinkles out during the campaign.

There is this thing in this country that, as you age -- and this is particularly, you know, women are hardest hit on this, and particularly in Hollywood -- America loses interest in you, and we know this is true because we constantly hear from aging actresses, who lament that they can't get decent roles anymore, other than in supporting roles that will not lead to any direct impact, yay or nay, in the box office. While Hollywood box-office receipts may be stagnant, none of that changes the fact that this is a country obsessed with appearance. It's a country obsessed with looks. The number of people in public life who appear on television or on the big screen, who are content to be who they are, you can probably count on one hand. Everybody's trying to make themselves look different -- and in that situation, in that case, they think they're making themselves look better. It's just the way our culture has evolved. It's the way the country is. It's like almost an addiction that some people have to what I call the perfection that Hollywood presents of successful, beautiful, fun-loving people. So the question is this: Will this country want to actually watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?

I’m Hillary’s age. You can see me by clicking on my screen name. I haven’t had anything done....it’s not a closeup like Hillary’s, but you can tell my age, I think...

The thing that bothers me most about her is her voice is so hard. What woman wants that rough edge to her voice? It sounds Nurse Ratchedy, Ex-Wifey, or like The Woman Boss from Hell-y.

Think of Thatcher’s voice—elegant. Can anybody here imagine Hillary talking softly and with love in her voice? I can’t...not with anyone...

Like that Octopus-woman in the “Mermaid” cartoon...that’s exactly what she reminds me of...that song she sang was flat terrifying, and I’m a grown woman.

I almost admire HRC, she (obviously) has never had plastic surgery.

I hope she never holds another public office but I don’t think she’s necessarily an ugly woman “of a certain age”.

M*LF score of 6.

Margaret Thatcher was merely an average looking woman, albeit well put together. I think peoples’ concerns about HRC have much more to do with her unattractive personality than with the wrinkles on her face. I think Rush Limbaugh, whom I revere, is playing into the Clintons’ hands when he talks about HRC’s looks. As Limbaugh acknowledged, whatever he says on this topic will be taken out of context, so why give HRC et al ammunition?

Here’s that song from Ursula, the Octopus, that reminds me of Hillary:

I admit that in the past I’ve been a nasty
They weren’t kidding when they called me, well, a witch
But you’ll find that nowadays
I’ve mended all my ways
Repented, seen the light and made a switch
True? Yes

And I fortunately know a little magic
It’s a talent that I always have possessed
And here lately, please don’t laugh
I use it on behalf
Of the miserable, lonely and depressed
(Pathetic)

Poor unfortunate souls,
In pain
In need
This one longing to be thinner
That one wants to get the girl
And do I help them?
Yes, indeed
Those poor unfortunate souls
So sad
So true
They come flocking to my cauldron
Crying, “Spells, Ursula please!”
And I help them?
Yes, I do

Now it’s happened once or twice
Someone couldn’t pay the price
And I’m afraid I had to rake ‘em ‘cross the coals
Yes, I’ve had the odd complaint
But on the whole I’ve been a saint
To those poor unfortunate souls

See, Hillary reminds me of that character-—and it WAS a cartoon, but that’s Hillary, she’s not real, she’s a caricature, and the cackle is pure Ursula...I’ve heard women giggle at many ages, and it’s cute—but who would cackle on purpose? Yet Hillary does....

But Paula Deen is a woman of real accomplishment, and there isn’t a mean bone in her body. She’s genuine. And smart. And a wonderful cook.

If she accepted these looks and didn’t try mightily to look different on T.V or on the cover of her book, I would agree.

If she was growing old gracefully she would like the same all the time, including the book cover and she would have grey hair. She got caught and I think she must smoke.

That is just an awful picture of her, she looks 75.

The Botox had been keeping her looking ok. There is a doctor out there that will pay for this.

And what of Hillary’s handlers? How in the world did they let her be photographed like this?
Someone screwed up big time.

Your face is informed with kindness and love. It's clear that you are a balanced and warm person. I would agree with you that the awful thing about Hillary is not her looks, but her soul. I have often said that very few men would ever vote for Hillary because she sounds like every man's dreaded ex-wife. She shrieks, she cackles, and as you say she has a very hard voice. I agree that it's hard to imagine her displaying any tenderness or warmth. Something is wrong with the way she was raised.
