Social conservatives especially are exercised by our porous borders, and Mr. Romney sees his surging rival's past positions on immigration as an inviting target. When Mr. Huckabee was governor of Arkansas, it turns out, he supported letting the children of illegal aliens, who met the same academic standards required of legal residents, apply for taxpayer-funded college scholarships. Heavens to Betsy!

Republicans losing Hispanic vote--now 57% RATS and 23% Pubbies and we have lost 21% in last 18 months.
Romney challenging Huckabee’s position on immigration?
POT-KETTLE-BLACK
“For starters, more than half and up to three-quarters of illegal immigrants in the U.S. are working “on the books,” which means they’re paying federal and state income taxes, just like the rest of us.”
Yes, but my legal employee’sare using services they should not be using. I have employee’s who have three cars, suburbans, tahoes and trucks. New Cars, on 12$ an hour salaries. How can they afford them? Its called food stamps and welfare. They do not cover their spouses and kids, and the govt looks a blind eye to it.
What makes one think ILLEGAls will not abuse the system even more.
Those dollars should be earned by citizens and legal residents, not those who have violated the laws of the USA.
I appreciate Mr. Huckabee’s position on not punishing the children of illegals and, instead, giving those children an opportunity to become citizens.
Technically, those scholarships would not be given to illegals as citizenship was a requirement to receive it.
I could vote for either Fred and Mitt without a clothespin on my nose. I couldn't vote for the Huckster even with a clothespin on my nose.
The Ball Street Journal's position on illegal aliens is well known: keep importing people from the third world so the middle class doesn't get too uppidy about serving the ruling class and is forced to subsidize cheap labor for their betters . . . and compete with it.
“For starters, more than half and up to three-quarters of illegal immigrants in the U.S. are working “on the books,” which means they’re paying federal and state income taxes, just like the rest of us.”
How? Income taxes are paid using social security numbers. Illegals do not have social security numbers, at least not legitimate ones. I’m very skeptical of this statement.
Child molesters pay taxes, too.
Would it be considered "Punishment" to send these children back to their country of origin?
You’re equating him to the Huckster because his landscaper hired illegals?
I’m guessing the children of illegals were born here in the States. At least that’s a very common scenario. So it’s a distinct possiblity that the country of origin for the children of illegals is the U.S.A.
Sorry, Shrink ... illegals do NOT pay school taxes on owned property anywhere near the amount needed to educate their children. Here in Texas we have the ‘Robbing Hood Plan’ wherin the state extorts millions of dollars from ‘better off’ school districts and gives it with no strings attached to ‘less well off’ districts. The quoted phrases are defined by the state as you may well have guessed.
The problem is that the millions of illegals coming to America flock to the barrio and put their non-English speaking litters into the public system; one of the ‘less well off’ systems. That increases the ‘needs’ of the ‘less well off’ which increases the amount the state extorts from my wallet via increased school property taxes in my part of the system. Only a small portion of my tax increases benefit the education system that my children are in.
The WSJ doesn’t want you to know the truth. They would rather you quietly pay the illegals bills for education and free health care while certain rich individuals greatly benefit from cheap labor and steal from American citizens.
The lower 50% of workers in the U.S. pay virtually no Federal Income Tax. The vast majority of illegal aliens, even those "on the books", are in the lower 50% of wage earners. They don't pay Federal Income Tax. They do suck huge amounts of money from government programs.
Even if they did, this a more than valid point.
But they do pay taxes
Tell it to all the hospitals being shut down by the Illegal Aliens who use their ERs, and schools sinking and forcing referendum increases constantly because of the strain of their little anchors.
Romney's problem is that he isn't able to effectively mount the charge due to his own flip flopping.
RINO pubbies. Hunter never had any problem with legal hispanics. 'Nuff said about foolishness.
Expecting ILLEGAL Anything and Anybody to come to some good....
Chinese pay US taxes too in import Tariffs. So, then should we allow Chinese citizens to vote in our elections too, and allow their kids to go to our public schools, check out books from our public libraries, and provide their kindergarten kids peanut butter jelly sandwiches while our mothers have to work hard to pack their kids lunches before frantically heading off to work to pay for mortgages so they can afford to live in neighborhoods like their parents did free of gangs and drive by shootings?
Ahh, but not every Chinese citizens pays tariffs indirectly, and only a small percentage is affected, so what a silly argument huh?
Well consider approximately 7.9 million W2s were received last year where the name did not match the social security number. We have about 12 million to 20 million illegal immigrants, increasing at a rate on 1 million per years, so whats that come to 40% pay income taxes? Hardly greater than the 50% number the wall street tabloid cites, we can only wonder how many of these wall street firms have connections to the slave trade in the 1800s, oh ,we digress, slave reparations is another topic .
What they neglect to tell you is that illegal immigrants filing false W4s are likely to also lie about the number of dependents they can claim in order to lower the amount of taxes deducted from their pay checks which allows them to get back the rest by filling a tax return.
But lets just give the wall street tabloid the benefit of the doubt, lets assume, than over half do pay taxes, and let us assume they pay more in taxes than an average
Chinese citizen pays in tariffs, besides a Chinese citizen will never vote republican they are and always will be a solid communist socialist voting block, in favor of Hillary care and such,,, then hey why not just allow citzens of Mexico to vote, and become dual US citizens becuse they have family values, and would never vote for a woman president...
While where at it, if it means that reducing the taxes by 50% of any voting block , (e.g. let half of Southern Baptists off the hook not to have to pay taxes) produces more republicans, why not just let 50% of these poor moms making peanut butter jelly sandwiches at home packing their kids brown bag lunch off the hook too, why not have a lottery and let half of those moms send their kids to college too, and not have to pay any taxes or tution, the republican platform of lower taxes is a tried and proven method of a better USA, the more voters we can buy the better apple pie we can make!
ping
Under the WSJ logic, I guess if we were losing voters over our position of low taxes and small government we should just cave on those issues too.
Some republican ought to stand for principal and not just pander to try to win votes. I think it is probably a losing cause to pander to Hispanic voters who want illegal immigration. Those folks are not going to vote republican no matter what we do, just like the blacks are not going to vote republican even if we adopt everything they want.
How? Income taxes are paid using social security numbers. Illegals do not have social security numbers, at least not legitimate ones.
It doesn't need to be a legitimate S.S. number as far as the IRS is concerned. The employer has to withhold at least a nominal amount from the illegal's check for state and federal taxes. That does not mean that the illegal will follow through and file a tax return at the end of the year, though.
