Democratic and Republican sources say that Sen. Joe Lieberman, the independent Democrat from Connecticut and fierce supporter of the war in Iraq, will formally endorse Sen. John McCain tomorrow in New Hampshire.
A McCain spokesperson declined to comment.
A source familiar with the endorsement said that the two will appear of NBC's Today Show tomorrow morning and at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire.
The endorsement could help McCain with independents in the state. Combine that with news that Rudy Giuliani is scaling back his advertising buy there, that the Boston Globe endorsed McCain, and that McCain's rivals are spending most of their time in Iowa.
The endorsement is further evidence of Lieberman's slow drift to the right in American politics and is bound to generate intense anger among Democrats who support him. But Lieberman and McCain have often walked in lockstep together on the prosecution of the war, have traveled to Iraq together, and have worked together on domestic issues like climate change.
The move will heighten speculation that McCain might ask Lieberman to join his ticket.

Well one thing for sure, Joe knows Hillary and her husband and didn’t go there. Other than when he was running with Gore, I sorta like the guy.
President Bush has done a bunch of dumb-ss things during his presidency but I wouldn’t call him a democrat. Lieberman is the least hard cord democrat of any of the democrats in the senate that I can think of. Why does he have to take a hit when he does something gutsy like endorse a Republican?
You talking about McCain or Thompson?
Why would he? He's an independent.
Amyway, the moonbats hate Lieberman, Remember Ned Lamont.
Lieberman is the only Democrat Senator I respect.
He's the best candidate out there for what is best for our country.
Alas, most don't consider what is best for our country when it comes to political backing.
I haven't seen any Thompson/Lieberman ticket touted here, unless it was one single toonbat.
Just because Fred didn't give a "definitive answer" on this subject doesn't mean Joe will be his Veep choice. C'mon now. It's a stretch pulling a fact out of off-hand comment.
I hope people settle down and don't get all rabbit-eared and thrashing about till election.
Joe will not be ANY candidate's Veep choice. First, he's an independent and brings no strength to a ticket. No one is trusted inside major league politics once they flip parties, no matter how good the explanation and how elfin the personality.
Second, once a national loser, always a national loser, no matter what the explanation. Third, Joe's from a small northeast state with minimal electoral votes which would probably go to the Dem anyway. So why pick Joe? He'd bring nothing into the ticket.
Fourth, Fred ain't that stupid.
He'll choose someone from a geographic area that makes sense and from a state that has a large chunk of electoral votes.
Don't rule out Texas, Minnesota or California (even though California and Minnesota are blue states. Nothing is forever).
Leni
Does anyone know if any Republican senators plan to endorse
Hillary, or Obama?
You are right....
I could see the Democratic Party grabbing on to them.
What the heck, Hilda has parts of them in her lock box so pulling their strings won't be to hard....
Mccain is a heck of a lot better than Rudy, Mitt and Huck. I didn’t expect Lieberman to pick the best conservative...but the polls look like most Republicans don’t want the best conservative.
Its not significant that he endorsed McCain, it is more significant that he did NOT endorse Her Thighness, or O’.
Uh, I don’t even know WHAT to make of that other than Joe does not want to endorse any of the front runners so as to avoid the whole big mud wrestling match.
He can maintain his "I" status...just caucus with the Repubs, and that would do just fine.
Fortunately McCain won’t be there in the general election.
Actually, McCain-Lieberman would be a very strong - and quite possibly unbeatable - ticket for the GOP.
Yeah, he’s soft on some issues. Who cares? We’re in a war. We can’t spare this man, he fights.
My God, people, when was the last time that a former Vice Presidential candidate crossed party lines in a national election? Has it happened in living memory?
Henry Wallace running in 1948 is the best I can come up with.
But it still can’t end speculation that insiders are using Thompson to drain off conservative votes and give McCain a shot at winning in a big field of candidates.
They are going on the “Today” show?
NBC is the network for McCain.
Home of his old buddy Chris Matthews.
“I get high.....I get high........I get high......, McCain”-
The Chris Matthews Band.
The recent NIE (National Intelligence Estimate) of Iran is scary because it has to reflect official administration policy and can’t just be passed off on Clinton plants.
It looks like the United States is going back to detente and appeasement of our enemies (Like we did with the Soviets in the past).
Contianment and peace talks that sell out Israel in the process. By the way, the sellout doesn’t happen until after the election next November.
This could be driving Lieberman’s thinking.
Maybe that’s the McCain strategy. Smear the rest of the candidates so he can come through the pass and win.
I’m not biting the bait.
A globe endorsement means sabotage for McCain but a Joedorsement is actually a compliment.
