Barbara Walters likes to receive Christmas greetings from high-profile celebrities and leaders, but apparently not if they refer to the Bible.
On Thursdays episode of ABCs The View, Walters expressed dismay that President and Mrs. Bush would send out greetings containing Scripture.
During the segment, Walters showed the other gals some of the highfalutin Christmas cards, and explained the White House card:
First of all, let me show you the cover of the White House, which is nice and bland So thats pleasant enough. This is what interested me, that it is a religious Christmas card. Usually in the past when I have received a Christmas card, its been happy holidays and so on- And this says:
You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You gave life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
Thats from Nehemiah in the Old Testament. I dont remember and Im sure people will remind megetting a religious card. Now does this also go to agnostics and atheists and Muslims and
Moderator Whoopie Goldberg and co-host Sherri Shepherd tried to steer clear of controversy by joking that the Scriptures were about Walters, but Walters persisted in her critique, asking, Dont you think its a little interesting that the president of all the people is sending out a religious Christmas card?
Walters showed her co-hosts a Christmas card from Elton John and his partner David Furnish that had angels on the cover. She didnt have similar concerns over the religious imagery as she did about the Scripture printed in the White House card.
Co-host Joy Behar pointed out to Walters that Elton Johns card was religious, and Walters responded, But it doesnt say anything religious. It says Seasons Greetings.
Later in the show Walters did say, By the way, I dont want to put down the President of the United States and his wife. I think its very nice that they sent me a Christmas card.
Christmas greetings can be sent to Barbara Walters at the following address. CMI asks that Christmas greetings be worded in the spirit of the season.

“Christmas is a Christian religion holiday (”Christ” “mass” get it) therefor it appropriate for a “Christ””mas” card to have something of the Christian religion on it ...”
Barbara’s complaint is kind of weird, because the Bush Christmas card ISN’T very “Christmassy” at all.
The Bush White House has consistently, since 2001, avoided sending out holiday cards with a Christian message.
They have consistently sent out cards with Old Testament rather than New Testament quotes. The Bush cards have always said “Happy Holidays,” or “Season’s Greetings,” rather than “Merry Christmas.” The artwork, including this year’s of a frozen-looking pond with a statue of a young boy, has featured bland seasonal images rather than any religious iconography.
Last time anybody complained about a Bush card it was William Donohue of the Catholic League who complained that it had nothing about this being a Christian holiday.
I don’t believe I’ve ever received a Bush WH Christmas Card with a “New Testament” Scripture on it. Which is ridiculous since thats what the Season is all about.
“I actually think reproductions of medieval artwork could sell quite well at Christmas time. But apparently the rest of the world is more interested in doves and cardinals and what not.”
But it is easy to find cards with reproductions of religious artwork, medieval as well as Renaissance, at any museum gift shop. I gather they sell quite well. See for instance the cards offered by the Metropolitan Museum of Art store:
And I am so sick of these corporate businesses bombarding me with the word “holiday” in place of Christmas in their advertising. It’s hard to watch football. I hate that word.
While I could see you point in why not a New Testament quote
The Christian bible is both Old Testament and New Testament, Christ himself quoted the Old Testament and Christ birth was foretold in the Old Testament.
As for the quote
"You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You gave life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you."
Praise and thank to the lord for what he has given is for me Christmassy and in my view far more than some other bible verse the might be used
It is getting a little better in NYC I see store with Christmas trimmings and other institution having a few decoration.
You know this is a Marvelous Holiday the Lord has given us, but of course let’s not forget the many bankrupt souls tried to deprive this need for all mankind to have goodwill towards their fellowman.
Wasn’t it Harriet Miers who set the Christmas card policy in 2001?
Good grief. Is this the best these people have to complain about?
I happened to like my card and have it proudly displayed on my mantel.
Merry Christmas!
Lord, God, I’ve heard enough from this traitorous NWO spokesperson; anti-Christian shill.
Please remove her from public life.
If you think she deserves it, Lord, please remove her in a most humiliating way. Make it emphatically clear what your attitude is toward her pontifications, please, Lord.
Have your way in her life. If she will repent, well and good. If not—enough of her on the public stage.
PLEASE, change her, move her off the stage or something more emphatically permanent at your discretion, Lord.
Anyone else care to join in such a prayer?
Just another reason not to watch the view
plenty of Jews here who think she is an asshat over this
Barbvara Walters has descened into aged irrelevancy.
It always amazes me when a Jew objects to the Jewish scriptures.
I pity Barbara Walters and all non-observant Jews and lapsed Christians who hate their own cultural legacy.
How dare Bush interject the Bible into a card about Christmas when everyone know this is “ Sparkle Season”. {sigh}
ping isn’t this just pathitic
That sums it up for me too.
