The United States will pledge about $500 million for the Palestinian Authority government in the West Bank when Arab, European and other nations meet next week, US officials said Friday.
The money would go toward a goal of $5.6 billion that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair hopes to raise to rescue the tattered Palestinian economy and reinforce institutions that would become the backbone of any eventual independent Palestinian state.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will deliver the pledge at a conference Blair has called Monday in Paris, the officials said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the figure has not been announced and might be changed slightly
The money is part of world efforts to improve the Palestinians' financial position as new US-sponsored peace talks begin.
Rice cannot promise that she can deliver on the pledge, which must be approved by the US Congress. The money includes about $400 million that the White House has already announced, but that has not been approved by Congress.
Some members of Congress are worried that money spent to strengthen the West Bank eventually could benefit a rival radical-led government in the other, separate, Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip. Other legislators want greater assurance that the West Bank government has shed its long reputation for corruption and cronyism

is arafat’s wife running low on money, what’s the story?
Why don’t we just sweep $500 million into a pile and burn it ?
At point do we want to have another Boston ******* tea party?
Because money isn't flammable at standard temperature and pressure?
Some 2,000 Jordanians protested after Friday noon prayers against Israeli economic sanctions and military operations in the Gaza Strip, calling for solidarity with Hamas and more suicide attacks against Israel.
The protest in the Jordanian capital of Amman, led by Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood organization, praised the Hamas movement which control’s the Gaza Strip and its leader Ismail Haniyeh, in a show of strength by the movement following its defeat at the polls.
“Al-Kassam army go forward with your suicide attacks against the enemy,” shouted the protesters, referring to Hamas’s armed wing, while waving Jordanian and Brotherhood flags.
The protesters also called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and the closure of the embassy in Amman. “Al-Rabieh must be liberated from the Zionist embassy and its ambassador,” they shouted, referring to the neighborhood where it is located.
Oh......well, then by all means give him the check. I feel much better about it now.
Good Lord! I am so sick of funding our damn enemies.
Teach them to fish.

“Money is not important, only the lack of it”. (Mark Twain)
Since the Bush Doctrine considers funders of terrorism the same as the terrorists themselves, are we now at war with ourselves?
Why did we stop sending funds? Terrorism. Have the Palestinians recognized Israel as a Jewish state that will remain for all time? No. Then send no funds.
It’s about time the Palestinians did something for peace. Otherwise let them live in the squalor they prefer.
The E.U. estimated that $2.8 billion in past aid to the then-Arafat controlled P.A. is "unaccounted for" to this day.
I'm convinced that the sheeple are too dumb or too lazy. In any event, there has been too many yrs of MTV, CNN & the public school system to jolt anyone. I caught the end of RUSH yesterday when he was talking to that women from Albany. There are just too many stoops like her grazing on our land.

Youre either on our side or the terrorists side.
Fast forward (2007)
Abu Abdullah of Hamas' Izzedine al-Qassam Martyrs Brigades of Hamas' military wing (Gaza, June 20, 2007).
"We have no worries about running out of weapons or ammunition
thanks to your (stupid, corrupt, terrorist-supporting) American government"
It really is sad how the American people just cannot be told the truth about Condoleeza Rice, her mentors Brent Scowcroft and James Baker III, and their strong financial and personal ties to the Ibn Saud regime. When Rice leaves government in 2009, it will begin a long private career in the Saudi/Gulf sphere of influence. People will be shocked at her open anti-Israel bias in the future. Unfortunately she gets a total pass on the very same bias, while it is obscured by diplomaspeak.
What did she say?
