DES MOINES -- Dissatisfied with the debate here Wednesday that drew widespread scorn, Iowa Republicans will discuss on Friday the possibility of holding another forum before the January 3rd caucuses.

The debate this week, sponsored by the Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Television, was to have been the final gathering of the GOP contenders, but one well-placed Iowa Republican said tonight that they were interested in getting the candidates back together

"We'd prefer if the Register debate did not leave a bad taste," said this source, who requested anonymity. "Iowa deserves a little better than that."

If there were another newspaper in Des Moines, the Register would fold in six months.

Yes..do it with conservative moderators and Republican party sponsorship. I know the MSM might not give them air time, but it could be broadcast on the Web..screw the MSM.

The moderator has become a walking punchline in these forums, and among the talking heads on CNN, MSNBC and Fox.

Nurse Ratchet should be very very thankful there is a writers strike, cause Letterman, Leno and company would be having a ball with her.

Maybe, just maybe, the GOP nominees will stop allowing leftwingnuts decide the parameters on THEIR DEBATES.

Just a thought.

No surprise here. I’m sure they feel like they didn’t get enough of an opportunity to attack Huckabee. No doubt this will be applauded by the “I Hate Huckabee” crowd on FR.

On the other hand, further serious discussion of the issues ought to be warmly received by all.

Sorry, "one well-placed Iowa Republican ", you had a chance to shine, but you picked a lame moderator on a NATIONAL stage of electing a POTUS.

I doubt ANY of the candidates want to be part of another 'monkey-show.'

And they ought to pit the Republicans against the Democrats.

Iowa deserves bunches and bunches better than that. The debate was pure puke!

Why not have a radio debate, why on tv?

They should take up Redstate’s offer to do a YouTube-like debate with real undecided Republicans, as opposed to opposition plants.

This is, after all, the REPUBLICAN primaries.

The R Candidates should not have to have an obviously Democrat moderator at every stinking venue.

I just love this. To me schoolmarm Washburn typifies everything that is wrong with Iowa, and why we’re still stuck back in 1975 while the rest of the world has passed us by. Glad somebody is thinking of flipping the Register the bird.

Another debate?

I hadn't realised that they had had an actual debate yet.
