Boy Scouts' banishment threatens Catholic Church
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | December 14, 2007 | Bob Unruh

Pro-homosexual Philadelphia officials' campaign to evict the Boy Scouts of America from their long-held regional headquarters on city-owned ground will create a precedent that could endanger dozens of other groups in the city, including the Catholic Church, as well as museums and a public radio station.

The issue: The City Council has decided the Boy Scouts, because they prohibit participation by open homosexuals, do not comply with the city's anti-discrimination policies and can no longer rent their headquarters for $1 a year, as they have since the city approved its original resolution on the plan 80 years ago.

The city had set a Dec. 3 deadline for the Scouts' Cradle of Liberty Council to agree to pay $200,000 a year, instead of $1, but the Scouts simply ignored that deadline, and negotiations apparently have broken off.

Assuming there are no changes in circumstances, that would mean the Scouts would have to be out of the building, which they built and paid for with their own funds decades ago, on June 1.

That left many, including a black leadership organization called Project 21, headed by WND columnist Mychal Massie, enraged.

"I live close to Philadelphia and am aware of the problems plaguing the city," said Project 21 member Jimmie Hollis. "The fact that the City Council is taking exception to the Boy Scouts is an outrage. With so much to fix, why are they so willing to instead hobble an organization trying to help people?"

"Their original agreement was that the city allowed the Scouts to use the city land in perpetuity for $1 a year, but the Scouts would have to build their own building and maintain it. That was the agreement on which the Council decided to renege."

Anything is justifiable to Marxists and Democrats as long as it achieves their end. Jimmy Carter had no problem reneging on our support to the Shah of Iran; he is the cause of many problems today in the middle east. We have many elected officials on drugs, with disordered minds, and little or no decorum. No one in the Democrat Party or MSM can connect the dots. Look for more of the same if the people continue to elect such vermin to lead them. The people of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania need to leave their greed outside the door of the voting booth.

Ultimately the perverts will destroy anything decent in our world and in the process will destroy themselves with their sick and diseased lifestyle.

And people think there is no Devil.

Impose that zany muzzie sharia law in hat cesspool for a year and the problem may disappear. I know it’s harsh. But I’m so sick of this pandering to the degenerate butt pirates, I could spit.

Didn’t the Philadelphia police already try that?

There is a contract. Again, iirc, they’ve been arguing about that for a few years. This didn’t just pop up overnight.

This is the same city council that passed a generic pro-abortion resolution, only then to back off of it.

Philadelphia is 80% Democrat. What would be expect?

Sounds like they’re aiming to make all of Philadelphia a morality-free zone.

I would load the building up with Boy Scouts refusing to leave. Invite the news media to witness the police being forced to carry them out into the street.

That would be the best thing to do and would show this action by the city for what it really is--a bunch of buly perverts trying to persecute little boys.

“We need to burn Philly to the ground and start over. This is going to far.”

Not just Philly

This why tolerance of homosexuals and the homosexual lifestyle is dangerous.

These people, or at least a significant enough proportion of them to influence public policy are not interested in mere tolerance.

They want approval, acceptance, and the ability to actively proselytize their lifestyle by imposing their views on people who disagree with their perversions.

The BSA has already won SCOTUS case on this issue. The court found that the BSA has the “right of assembly”, ie. establish its own membership rules. I don’t see why the BSA doesn’t sue Philadelphia for violating its civil rights.

In the same vein, government cannot dictate that a religion organization accept the gay agenda.

It looks to me like BSA could sue and get the property back. I’m not a contract lawyer, but the city is clearly in breech. ACLJ, where are you?

P.S. off topic

This is the hallmark of a liberal. We are a nation of laws until they don't like the law, then they ignore it. The re jiggering of homeloans is a test we will see shortly. I don't see how all parties can sign on the dotted line and a court or government entity decide to re negotiate what all parties agreed to. That is Hugo Chavez, not America.

Phily can say they want the land back I guess, but the BSA should be reimbursed for the improvements. That is a "taking" by government which is also covered by law. If it goes far enough, seems to me some officials could be liable for impeachment.

Seems the city is pretty arrogant felling pretty untouchable. They need a lawyer to knock them down a notch.

If I was the Boy Scouts I would make sure I tore the building down before I left.

Breach of contract is a GREAT idea.

A similar story came down here about 17 years ago.

A ham radio related group had built a Museum to celebrate the Bay Area’s early electronics history at a local junior college. The building had additional facilities in it that the junior college used as class rooms. The deal was something like $1 and other considerations, i.e. the building would serve as the museum in perpetuity. Well - college decides to kick the museum out. Lawsuit happens. District looses something like 1 million bucks - 1990 value of the building to replace as I recall. That year they had a HUGE deficit of something like 14 million - the award didn’t help matters. Gee - you think they could have placed a new building somewhere else for cheaper.

I predict the BSA will take the City for a pretty sum for violation of the contract. Hope so anyway.

Ah yes, and the death rate in the city of brotherly blood continues to grow while the elected officals busy themselves with more important things like stabbing the Boy Scouts in the back, banning trans fat and whining about the sign in Geno’s window.

What a great city!

City of Brotherly Love

Maybe they need to rename it to "City of Brotherly and Sisterly Love only. Heterosexuals keep out."
