Washington, D.C. U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) made the following statement today regarding President Bushs announcement yesterday to grant pardons and commutations to 29 individuals, while refusing to pardon Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos.
The President announced yesterday that 29 individuals have been granted pardons and commutations for a variety of crimes, from dealing drugs to the theft of government property, said Congressman Hunter. Two names that were conspicuously missing from the Presidents list were Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.
By refusing to pardon agents Ramos and Compean, the President has missed yet another opportunity to correct this miscarriage of justice. The fact that the drug dealer, whose testimony sent the agents to jail, has been indicted for running drugs across the border while serving as a federal witness necessitates a Presidential pardon.
Agents Ramos and Compean deserve to be pardoned and returned to their families for Christmas.
Mr. President, pardon our Border Patrolmen.

Just pass a law that it’s only a misdemeanor for a border patrol agent to shoot someone illegally crossing the border, so long as they aren’t killed & make it retroactive.

What does President Bush have against Ramos and Compean? This defies logic, if anyone deserves prison it is the prosecuting attorney Johnny Satan.

And if they flee, it should not even be a misdemeanor.

What would former President Ronald Reagan do?
Since our former president is not here to ask....Trust the best candidate for President, Mr. Duncan Hunter to get it right, when Ronald Reagan isn't here.

You’ll have better luck getting “hard nose Jorge” to build the wall than granting them a pardon...

What does President Bush have against Ramos and Compean?
They represent border enforcement. Duncan Hunter wants Ramos and Compean pardoned for the same reason.

Ramos and Compean are the sacrificial lambs being put up to show Mexico we mean them no harm. Much the way Breaker Morant was screwed by the British in the Boar War.

Yes it is worth repeating over & over again! I would love to see the president's pal Johnny Sutton sitting his lying arse in jail for Christmas. Hunter is the only man so far I see with the guts to say what needs to be said & what I want to hear. I trust him far more then any of the others. I think he would be the best man for the job ...

The case is currently before the appeals court. I suspect that he is giving the appeals court a chance to rule. If they grant the agents a new trial, I think the Justice Department will likely settle the case or at least drop the charge that had the 10 year mandatory sentence.
After all the agents did do something wrong. It was that the punishment did not fit the crime.

Ramos has a wife and three children. Guys in prison don’t earn money to pay a mortgage or provide food for their families much less to pay legal fees. The Compean family has three children, a daughter and two sons, one of whom was born in 2006. The Compean family has already lost their home.

Possible. I guess one settlement could be for time served on the current 1 yr and 1 day assessment against Ramos and the 2 yr assessment against Compean. But that would mean they would have to plead guilty in exchange for that to happen.

I appreciate that.
Its no big deal, the spears having been thrown before on this topic my way obviously don’t have an impact on my viewpoint.
But still, thanks.
