How many more will die before we learn? (anti-Gun Barf Alert)
Denver Post ^ | 13 dec 07 | Gail Schoettler

Colorado is certainly gaining a worldwide reputation these days. But it's not for our magnificent mountains or fantastic skiing. It's for our horrific murders, first in schools and now in churches. What a reputation! Columbine shook us to the core. Wherever I travel, when I say I'm from Colorado, that's the first thing people ask about. Then we had Platte Canyon. And now the Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada and the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. Children mowed down by severely depressed classmates and demented adults. Where will this stop?

Of course, we're not the only ones. We've seen mass murders across the country. We've seen so many mass murders that we're almost numb. Just one more shooting to note. Unless you're the parents of the children shot to death in Colorado Springs or Arvada or Columbine or Platte Canyon. Or all the other places where people have died at the hands of a deranged killer

A moral society will be a good place to start. If everyone, including the poor and rich are morally well grounded, the country can make machinegun ownership legal and crime will be extremely rare (i.e Swizterland). On the other hand if a society has no moral core, the availability of knives and baseball bats is sufficient to fuel crime and murder (i.e inner cities of the US).

I'm sure the founding fathers, who gave us the Second Amendment, could not have imagined grenade launchers and shoulder-held rocket launchers.

Yeah, because they were really dumb, and had never heard of bombs, mortars and cannons.

“Where will this stop?”

That’s a question I constantly ask myself, too, but in a slightly different context; where will all these moronic anti-gun articles stop, and subliterate weak thinkers begin to educate themselves with respect to history and the preeminent value and essential nature of the Second Amendment?

How about blaming crime on criminals and the insane, rather than on the inanimate tools they employ. You create a sick society, you get sick people; you fail to address and punish crime, you get more of it. It’s not the guns, lady, it’s your world.

It is the right to bear arms that kept the death toll from rising into the hundreds. Seems that this writer doesn’t really understand what happened that day.
It’s not gun control we need. She needs to get out more. LOL

She's lucky, I have to say I'm from Detroit.....and nobody visits Detroit.

Why don't we have laws that keep automatic weapons out of the hands of those who threaten us in our daily lives?

Here we have another example of the blatant dishonesty of anti-gun zealots.

Automatic weapons have been strictly regulated (virtually impossible for the average civilian to obtain and/or afford) since the National Firearms Act of 1934.

In all my decades of visiting gun stores, gun shows, etc., I have never even SEEN an automatic weapon, much less seen one for sale.

I'm sure the founding fathers, who gave us the Second Amendment, could not have imagined grenade launchers and shoulder-held rocket launchers.

"Should-held rocket launcher"!? More dishonesty and hyperbole.

BTW Our Founding Fathers could not have imagined TV, radio or the internet, either. Using this demented individuals logic, the First Amendment should apply only to the hand-operated printing press, the quill pen, and the spoken word.

These citizens want to keep guns out of the hands of people with a history of mental illness or spousal abuse or felony convictions.

More blatant dishonesty.

Anyone having been adjudicated mentally ill cannot legally purchase, own or possess a firearm.

Thanks primarily to Sen. Frank Lautenberg, anyone guilty of misdemeanor domestic violence may not legally purchase, own or possess a firearm.

A felon may not legally purchase, own or possess a firearm.

All of this is very clearly stated on ATF form 4473.

Where will this stop? You mean the defending of these asinine gun free zones. Probably for a while with liberal morons like you around.

“Wherever I travel, when I say I’m from Colorado, that’s the first thing people ask about.”

BS. I’m from CO and live a few miles from Columbine and am never asked about it.

(Schoettler was Lieutenant Governor in the final Romer administration)

And a failed candidate for Colorado governor.

It's not the Second Amendment that's the problem, it's those who adamantly refuse to agree to any limits on gun use at all.

I loved this line, with the living, breathing interpretation of the word 'is' and all...

Our rights come from God. My right of self defense is non-negotiable. I will not agree to limit it for Gail Schoettler or any one else who thinks it makes society too dangerous. Its not guns that are the problem; its the existence of bad people in our society and as we all well know, liberalism denies the existence of evil. The only way to protect innocents means that sometimes deadly force has to be used to stop a malefactor from inflicting further harm. That's the nature of the world.

The last one already stopped. Read the paper and you'll be surprised how it stopped, Gail

Our state is RTC and there's nothing Gail can do to return Colorado to the days when people where at the mercy of the criminals.

Start arming everyone.

You never see this at a shooting range.

Columbine, Virginia Tech and Omaha had two things in common: cowering cops outside and unarmed sitting ducks inside.

Colorado was different. The right to bear arms saved the lives of men, women and children. How anyone could fail to see the distinction is incomprehensible.
