Fred Thompson Wins, Hands Down (Freds' "I paid for this microphone" moment)
American Spectator ^ | 12/12/2007 | Philip Kline

Posted on 12/12/2007 2:30:09 PM PST by JRochelle

First, let me say that this was by far the worst debate yet. The questions were not only skewed to the left, not only almost entirely neglected foreign policy, but they were so broad as to allow the candidates to fall back on talking points. Also, there was no room for back and forth between the candidates. Absolutely awful.

With that said, Fred Thompson was the only candidate who stood out. He was funny, charming, and peppy. Here was a guy who wasn't afraid to speak hard truths, and who displayed knowledge of the policy issues--especially on entitlements. But the moment of the debate, the moment that will be talked about should he defy expectations and go on to win the nomination, was when he refused to raise his hand at the behest of the moderator. This demonstrated conviction, showed he was able to stand up for his principles, that he was a man who valued substance, a leader rather than a follower, and somebody who is running a different kind of campaign. In short, today Thompson was everything that conservatives had hoped they'd be getting when he announced his candidacy.

Just looked again at C-Span schedules. The debate will be repeated as follows, with a change in time on C-Span 2:

C-Span 2 8:00 PM Eastern
C-Span 11:00 PM Eastern

Fred Thompson will be our next President! :)

Rudy, McCain, Romney and Huckabee all had their hands raised until Thompson spoke up. At that point Romney said “yeah, I’m with him”, although just seconds before he had his hand raised.

I saw the clip and it was great! THe moderator was some weasely woman who wanted all of those who agreed with manmade global warming to raise their hands. He said no...so she asked again, if that meant he was saying no..and he basically said that he was not going to do the whole raising hands thing..i.e. the subject demanded more substance and explanation

I loved it! And his pithy one-liners to Mitt were good too

I’m beginning to actually SEE what I’ve always enjoyed READING in Thompson’s writings...a thoughtful man who will do it his way

Fred it is!! The gang of four will go down the “human caused global warming” path with the other globalists. This also shows their detachment from the US as a sovereign state, IMO. Unless Fred steps on himself, he has my vote!

"Fred Thompson will be our next President! :)"

That is my hope and his political obituary is totally premature. Hehehehe....

I would have raised my hand and said, ‘yes, it is a problem. Its a problem because the majority of Americans have been tricked into believing global warming actually exists.

I thought that was what I saw. I was going to check the tivo later. This is a perfect example of Slick Willard’s gutlessness.

yea, a primary debate at 2 in the afternoon on cable is gonna be sooooo significant.

The beauty of it now is that timing is irrelevant. It will be sliced to pieces on the internet and posted all over to a million different sites. People will seek the most talked about clips. The word will spread about Fred from here with little effort, all despite the media's attempt to shut him down.

I honestly believe that Fred would name Hunter to a cabinet post such as Homeland Security.

A Girl Scout could do a better job than senor illegal alien loving Michele My Bell Jerktoff.
