OWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Actor and film director Tim Robbins came to Iowa Wednesday to praise John Edwardsand bury the media.
"I'm not Oprah," Robbins said, by way of introduction to a packed library auditorium.
Robbins, whose film credits include "Mystic River," "Bull Durham" and "The Shawshank Redemption," said Edwards has been overlooked as the media focus on the clash between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
"There is one man who is neck-and-neck with these two in the polls," he said of Edwards. "And he's there because he's listening to people. He's reaching their lives with his campaign."
With Bill Clinton campaigning for his wife and Oprah Winfrey campaigning for Obama, celebrity sightings are becoming increasingly common on the campaign trail. Actor Kevin Bacon was supposed to join Edwards later this week. And singer-song writers Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt are scheduled to perform at Edwards' town meetings in New Hampshire next week.
Edwards was on the third day of an eight-day bus tour through Iowa.
The campaign setting was not entirely alien to Robbins. He's well- known as a liberal activist and even played a candidate running for the Senate in "Bob Roberts," a film he also wrote and directed.
Robbins was not kind to the media, accusing it of having skewed priorities.
"What if instead of 24-7 coverage of the most recent pop star's fall from grace we would see 24-7 reporting of veterans returning from Iraq," he said. "How do THEY feel about occupying a country and being caught in a crossfire of a civil war?"

Tim Robbins, Kevin Costner and Jackson Browne are all John Edwards boosters.

"How do THEY feel about occupying a country and being caught in a crossfire of a civil war?" Timmy, you would not like what the soldiers would have to say about being true American Patriots. Careful what you ask for, numbnuts.

Is he still living here in the country he hates so much? Wasn’t he on the Alec Baldwin “I’m moving to Canada” bandwagon?
Man, I wish these Hollyweird types would follow through on their threats.

"I'm not Oprah."

ROFL I saw a car with a John Edwards 08 bumper sticker today, entering a grocery store’s parking lot, and I was tempted to stop and see what kind of fool would actually choose the silky pony. No need, however, since Tim Robbins has now answered that question.

Robbins is a talentless, grossly over-compensated little twirp who believes he has “something to say”.
He’s also convinced himself that he is a legitimate tough guy, believing I suppose, that the roles he plays are real.

I’m sure the “dumb hicks” of Iowa appreciate being told who to vote for by Hollywood types.

I saw one this morning on 395N in northern VA with that same sticker - it was a light blue Prius. I cracked up.

What's that line from Forrest Gump spoken by the Jenny-beating SDSer? "I'm sorry, it's just that bastard Johnson gets me so angry!"

I have begun to simply ignore what these people say off the big screen. They are actors and that is their job. Just because they make gobs of money off of a few movies does not mean that I have to gush over these people when they speak. I have much disdain for the word "celebrity" and even more for people who decide to use that "celebrity status" to talk down to us wee folk.
As far as I am concerned, this man could be my next door neighbor saying that he is voting for Edwards and it would make about as much of a difference.
There is this one sentence in the Constitution that I like to think about every time one of these people decides to get on their high horse and preach to me:
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States
I like this one because it means our Founding Fathers knew what happens when people place others on undeserving pedestals. These "celebrities" like to dress up and play the part of the noble class.

Poor Timmy. Its so sad when boy toys become old, cranky hypocrites.
Wahts even sadder is his wife looks twenty years younger then him....(chuckle)
As for his view on politics, I can’t relate to what the world looks like from a limo in passing, nor from behind an estate’s guarded walls and gates.
Guess I just can’t relate to poor old timmy robbins...

Probably the only Robbins statement I will ever agree with.
