Noting that he might not agree 100 percent on immigration with Huckabee, the firebrand illegal immigration opponent said Huckabee's recently released immigration plan won him over.
"The governor has a plan and I appreciate his plan. That's why I'm supporting him. He's one of the few who's actually brought forth a plan and gone public with it. It shows to me that he's willing to engage in the tough love necessary to fix this problem," Gilchrist said.
Gilchrist, whose organization is separate from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, has drawn protests in appearances at college campuses in recent months for his views on strict illegal immigration laws. Unlike the MCDC, whose primary role is to park volunteers along the U.S.-Mexico border to report jumpers to Border Patrol agents, the Minuteman Project calls attention to enforcement of state and federal laws relating to immigration.
Huckabee last week announced a get-tough immigration plan, proposing to construct a border fence with surveillance cameras by July 1, 2010, calling for an increase to the number of Border Patrol agents and imposing steep penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants.

>This is like a chicken endorsing Colonel Sanders
Or a cow endorsing Ronald MacDonald ...
If this is not some kind of a joke, then I can think of nothing better designed to make Gilchrist a joke.
Come clean now and admit Huckabee and Gilchrist are conspirators in the New World Order conspiracy!
So you want me to believe that actual beef from cows is served at McD's?
Actually this might be a brilliant strategy:
If illegal immigration ended, then he'd be out of a job; so by ensuring continuous illegal immigration he ensures future cash flow from trying to "stop" it.
Didn’t Tancredo endorse Gilchrist for Congress last cycle?
I’ve routinely contributed the past couple of years to the Minuteman Project.
They just lost any hope of further donations from my household.
Hope it was worth it.
I think the anti-Huck types are getting a little hysterical. This guy is basically GWB without the blue blood and marble mouth right down to the faith-based decision making. Not perfect. Not great on taxes and immigration, but still preferrable to Shrillary or Oprahbama. He may be a snake oil salesman (newsflash: all politicians are), but he’s a damn good one. He’s a very effective communicator and comes across as the most authentic candidate — not to us, but to people who don’t sit around burning up political chat websites . In other words, the average voter. If the immigration hardliners were as influential as they like to think they are Tancredo would be more than just a footnote. I think alot of this doomsday talk is self-fulfilling prophecy and hate to see all this energy expended on Huckabee when Miss Sauron awaits. All that matters is can he beat a shrill, super-lib in the purple states after we dish on her bozo husbands constant humiliating affairs. Flame away.
That or Gilchrist might be a Christian that believes Huckabee will keep his campaign promise on the issue.
No one could make this @#$% up.
Really.
Democrat party officials are avoiding any and all criticism of Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee, insiders reveal.
The Democratic National Committee has told staffers to hold all fire, until he secures the party’s nomination.
The directive has come down from the highest levels within the party, according to a top source.
Within the DNC, Huckabee is known as the “glass jaw — and they’re just waiting to break it.”
The Huckester is a looser for the get go.
He is Clinton and Carter rolled into one.
Interesting...I’ll withhold comment for the present.
If you accept the argument that it is not worth endorsing someone who is far behind in the polls this late in the race, then your choices are pretty much limited to Huck, Rudy, and Romney. I don't like any of the three, but I can understand why someone might choose to endorse the one he thinks is the least bad among those three at this point.
Wanting Hunter or Tancredo to be electable doesn't make them electable. I think Thompson is probably the most likely to support enforcement of immigration laws and border security of those who have had higher poll numbers, but he unfortunately appears to be fading.
I'm holding out hope for Thompson as well, but most people think he has already peaked and is quickly fading out of the running.
I don't want that to be the case, but I can see why someone else might feel it is the case.
You at a loss for words? Impossible.
Now that is funny!
Unbelievable...for once I am speechless.
Ding! We have a winner.
There goes Hunter and dracanto’s support.
