COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado Springs megachurch instituted security precautions after a shooting at a Denver area mission center earlier Sunday, saving "hundreds of lives" at the New Life Church, senior Pastor Brady Boyd said Monday.
A New Life parishioner acting as a security guard shot and killed a gunman who entered the church Sunday afternoon after he had gotten no more than 50 feet inside the building, Boyd said.
...
Boyd said the female security guard was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to confront the gunman just inside the church.
"She probably saved over a hundred lives," Boyd said of the guard, whom he said is not a law enforcement officer and used her personal weapon.
...
"Hundreds of lives were saved yesterday because of the plan that was put in place," said Boyd, who put the number of people on the church campus at the time as 7,000.

And the fellow who also rushed the shooter, armed only with raw courage. Without him to divert the killer’s attention, the killer might have shot the lady, and the story would have ended much differently.
I’ve visited this church while pulling reserve duty in Colorado Springs. If somebody got down the hall and into the worship area, hundreds would not have been an overstatement at all. The services are always packed and there’s noplace to hide.
Your screenname is not.
VERY well stated!
Highly ironic since in many states, CCW permit holders aren’t allowed to carry on church grounds.
Exactly. The male rusher said he yelled and called the guy a couple of nasty names and when he did the shooter turned towards him. He being the target helped the female guard.
As a buddy of mine says:
“Shot placement is King, adequate penetration Queen. All else is just angels dancing on the head of a pin.”
As does TX, unless (like yours truly) you’re an active judicial officer.
I thought Ranya moved to Wyoming. What’s she doing in Colorado?
No idea yet what he was shooting. But supposedly he had 3 backup guns.
If he had gotten up into the choir loft.....with 700 folks jammed in pews below him....
I sold my cloak. I have a Remington sword for right now.
The guy was probably in shock that ANYBODY would be shooting back at him in a church. Sounds like he didn’t have a Plan B.
OK..... Sure glad this POS was (only) a single threat vs multiple.
Memo to self....add another spare mag to CHL loadout.
I think even CNN can see the danger in yakking about a “downside” or “contrasting opinion” to an action that obviously saved many lives. And honestly, they’d probably be doing us a favor if they DID invite some sucker to come on camera and express such views.
I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to see these attacks as a fine and justified reason to ignore those immoral disarmament laws.
Concealed means concealed.
The unarmed rusher deserves equal credit in my book.
Finally got to use that philosophy degree!
LOL, I hadn't thought of that! So, Ranya really does exist, whatever her name is.
Purse. It's how I carry my Glock 30. Looks kinda funny on a guy, but what do I care; I'm the one with the gun?
Yep.....rather be missed with a 45 that hit with a 9......
