“Government buildings in Colorado are off limits if they have metal detectors at entrances. Court rooms are almost always off limits.”

We need laws that require a solid police presence at every site that citizens are denied their right to carry. Something like “For every 200 unarmed citizens there will be 1 police officer on-site. None of these school meetings or sporting events setup as target-rich opportunities. If there is no visible police presence than the citizen automatically has the right to carry.”

“Constitutionally, the 2nd Amendment should supersede any stupid law or zone set up by the corrupt government.”

But not private property laws. For example, if a Bar owner doesn’t want to babysit armed drunks, he shouldn’t be required to, nor should any other homowner or business owneer be forced to allow people to enter their property armed. as long as it’s posted, fair notice is given.

There is a Vietnamese restaraunt in Denver where my wife and I usually eat lunch once a week or so. A few weeks ago a man with a rifle burst in the back door, apparently trying to rob either the restaraunt or customers. Unfortunately for the robber, there were two undercover police officers having lunch at the time. In the ensuing gun battle the robber was shot, but survived after surgery. I have a CCW permit and always carry a concealed handgun for protection.

Arming the students also helped.

When I got my first permit, there was a “rules sheet” the El Paso Cnty sheriff handed out.

It has a list of places you couldn’t carry. One was “any establishment that makes more than 40%” of their revenue in alcohol sales (liquor stores, and bars, certain restaurants).

County and Federal buildings and several other places. Schools were specifically on that listing.

Each county had it’s own rules, and some were much more stringent than our county.

Denver CO refused to give anyone a permit, and ARRESTED people they stopped who happened to be passing through and were armed. They confiscated their weapon, arrested them, put them in jail and confiscated their cars as well.

The state legislators finally, finally passed rules saying that ALL counties had to follow the SAME rules.

A few days ago I was under the misapprehension that “liquor stores” and such like that were still “on the list”. I’ve since checked with several organizations, and re-read the CCW laws and found that there are NO places that are off limits.

The noted exception is inside Federal buildings (and specifically places with permanent, in-place metal detectors like court houses, etc which are county and city buildings).

But, banks, churches and the friendly, neighborhood liquor stores are no longer “off limits”. School property, inside the school is off limits, but I can be armed on school property if I am in my car, or if my weapon remains in the car when I go inside).

It is LEGAL to have a CONCEALED weapon in your CAR when you are traveling around the state (EVERY county, including DENVER COUNTY!) whether you have a permit or NOT. Your car is considered, in this state, like your “residence”.

I hope that clears up some misinformation that some people have given you.

by the way, I’m NOT a lawyer, I’m not practicing law, and I would always advise you to CHECK THE RULES/LAWS yourself for your own areas and be clear on them before you do anything. (Thats for everyone)

Agree! Private property and the rights that accompany it are excepted. This should also apply to smoking, trans fats etc. etc.

Handgun.

Long guns are covered by DOW.

Wrong. It is LEGAL for me to carry a rifle or shotgun in my car, as long as no round is chambered. Sorry. I carry my AR15 and several other weapons with me when I go to a range. Mostly they are unloaded, but if I am carrying a lot of EXPENSIVE WEAPONS, I keep two mags for the AR ready to load, and I keep a side arm as does my life-long shooting partner and wife.

No, it is NOT illegal to keep a loaded weapon of any sort in your car.

The only restriction is “NO CHAMBERED ROUND” in a rifle or shotgun. That’s in the Colorado Revised Statues.

The security guard is said to have been an off-duty CSP officer, female,

Reports now are that although she has some law enforcement experience, she isn't a police officer.

In any case, if anybody deserves the title "Hero", she certainly does.

You will have to explain that to the Department of Wildlife not me.

It was Awesome for me as a woman to find out the Security Guard is also a woman; I have no adequate words to describe my Admiration for her, and my Heart is Thankful to our Lord that she has saved multiple lives through her Courage.

(I need to add to this, I assume you’re referring to carrying a concealed HANDGUN in your car for protection. It would be kind of dumb to carry a loaded rifle to protect yourself in your vehicle)

So I assume that’s what you’re talking about? Even so, it is NOT illegal to carry a rifle concealed in your vehicle.

The wealth of knowledge of posters here on Free Republic is just amazing. Thank you for the "law" lesson...and don't worry...

I would always advise you to CHECK THE RULES/LAWS yourself for your own areas and be clear on them before you do anything.

If I break any laws concerning carrying a concealed weapon, I won't hold you responsible. ;o)

Thank you for your posts on this thread, Rick

I agree. No publicity. If the VA Tech shooter hadn’t been so glamorized, the NE mall incident may not have happened.
