Colorado police look for links in church killings
Reuters ^ | 12/10/2007 | Keith Coffman

Police in Colorado on Monday were looking into possible links between shootings at a Christian evangelical church and a missionary training center over the weekend that left four victims and a gunman dead.

A man dressed in black, wearing combat boots and holding an assault rifle and at least one handgun, opened fire in the parking lot of the vast evangelical New Life church in Colorado Springs after Sunday services, killing one person on the spot and wounding others. A second person died later, police said.

A security guard shot and killed the gunman, Colorado Springs Police Chief Richard Myers told a news conference.

Police did not identify the gunman. There were about 7,000 people in the building when the shooting erupted, a pastor said.

In an incident about 12 hours earlier and 70 miles away, a man entered a Christian missionary training center in the Denver suburb of Arvada and killed two young missionaries with a handgun shortly after midnight, police said.

The Arvada gunman, also dressed in dark clothing, fled on foot in the snow.

The attacks -- both at Christian religious buildings on a Sunday shortly before Christmas -- caused shock and dismay.

They came just four days after a 19-year-old man killed eight people and then himself with an assault rifle at a busy shopping mall in Omaha, Nebraska.

Police in the two Colorado cities were sharing information but there was no indication of the motive in either case.

"We have not been able to identify a motive as of yet," Colorado Springs police spokesman Skip Arms told CNN.

While Myers said there was no information that the attacks were related, Arvada Police Chief Don Wick said there could be a connection.

Constitutionally, the 2nd Amendment should supersede any stupid law or zone set up by the corrupt government.

If you are an ADULT and a CITIZEN the RKBA should apply.

I heard the Chief on the radio congratulating all the different agencies (that are falling all over each other trying to get a little face time) for the great job they’re doing. He didn’t mention the security guard that capped the perp.

The filth who do this should remain nameless and faceless

I'd argue that if the perp ends up having been a Mohammedan.

Just reported on KOA 850 radio that the two girls, age 18 and 16 were sisters and their father was wounded. None of the church members knew the shooter.

What kind of religion? That is the question! Not all homeschoolers are Christian.

the one inspirational part of the otherwise "terrible, evil" shootings, a detail "already buried by the media".

That is I why I posted this article, even though many others had already been posted on these shootings. It's very important that the public is made aware that it was an ARMED member of the congregation that ended this terrible situation. The pastor is calling her a security guard, but the fact is, she is a volunteer that has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

The ENEMEDIA will never report a story showing a positive aspect to having armed citizens.

Schools are the next target. It's not a question of if, just when!

Sad commentary for our country that we need, MUST have armed citizens at our schools and churches...and malls...and...

This is true in Israel, and I might point out that it is not the country's fault, but the perps fault. Being in a world war with Islam, we should have far more armed security people in public places than we do. It is very irresponsible the level of security in the USA. Street crime in Israel is almost non-existant, and wacko shooters, or muslim ones all do not get very far. It is like trying to hold up a cop bar.

I wish there was far more weapons in the hands of responisble citizens. They outnumber wackos a million to one.

Government buildings in Colorado are off limits if they have metal detectors at entrances. Court rooms are almost always off limits.

Of course it is. I can’t believe it took 68 posts before someone figured out whose fault it is!

“Agree! Sad commentary for our country that we need, MUST have armed citizens at our schools and churches...and malls...and...”

Not if the unions have their say. In the states under the firm grip of labor unions, citizen rights are usurped by the union lobbyists insisting on paid armed guards and not non-dues paying citizens on guard.

Yes, roger your concern about schools--

It has been said that any action taken against Iranian nuclear facilities will be done on a weekend to reduce the sleeper cell backlash on schools here.

Beslan is the template--

As with 911, the plans coalesce over time, in secret, and emerge with a terrible immediacy--

That's why they call it terrorism.

We will not allow the media to suppress the single most important fact of the church shootings--

Chuck Schumer didn't stop them--

Samuel Colt and Jane Q. Citizen did.

Yes. (See the other thread! :))

I know this. I live in the Colorado Springs area. I probably know people that go to that church in fact, since I know a LOT of people here in the Springs. I don’t know any of the victims and because of this I will never get to know them.

I guess my point is, it doesn’t matter what those signs say.

If I’m carrying concealed, no one knows it. I freely admit I carry whenever and where ever I personally deem it reasonable and necessary. On occasion, I’ve carried where others might deem it UNREASONABLE... but tough for them.

I don’t believe in people telling me what to do. They aren’t my mother, they aren’t my father, and they aren’t my boss.

There are only two places I do NOT carry a weapon... But, that’s for the bad guys to figure out :)

As for signs, they are meaningless. No, you can’t and won’t be charged with trespassing, UNLESS you cause a ruckus. You won’t be charged with anything, since if you have gone through the permit process you’ve shown yourself to be reasonable, responsible and not on any mental case list, or prevented by other laws from carrying a weapon. (Oh and you paid your 90 dollars or whatever it is now)

Even the Liberal Anti-Gun Bashing Bastion of Denver can NOT refuse to give you a permit if you meet the state requirements and laws. They can’t stop you (as someone mentioned in another thread) from carrying a concealed weapon. I believe they have some specific laws against carrying openly though.

I live in El Paso county, and we started the “Give every one a permit unless they’re criminals” push. I was one of the first few people with my permit, along with about 50 other people, who were in ALL walks of life, ages and gender. So, I was on the “cutting edge” of pushing for concealed carry again in this state along with the current Sheriff (Terry Makita, and the previous Sheriff. Those folks were instrumental in getting the state to the point we are now. The rest of us wrote LOTS and LOTS of letters.

I think every citizen in this state ought to be given a CCW permit with their drivers license if they have gun safety training and sign off on understanding the laws regarding carrying a weapon. They do NOT have to CARRY one, but they should be automatically given a pass on carrying a concealed weapon.

That way, the criminals - the ones who already have records will not have this right. Those who break the law have that right removed.

Note I said RIGHT, not privilege. Here it is a Right.
