It is very obvious that Fred Thompson is Free Republic most favorite candidate and by far. On the other hand every other top tier Republican candidate, Guiliani, Romney, Huckabee, and McCain are absolutely disdained by most Freepers. Therefore this is the important question:
What would Free Republic do if Fred Thompson is not the Republican Party Nominee?
Perhaps, but he’s the only candidate who appears on the FR popular keyword list.
Why should I believe that Rudy would nominate better judges than Hillary? The man is terminally confused on the subject of constitutional interpretation. His nominees are likely to reflect his confusion, and if they did, they wouldn’t be worth having.
Part of being a conservative is grasping the tragic nature of life. The tragedy of 2008 for Republicans may turn out to be that, win or lose, the country will be damaged by the election results. If that is the case, we can at least refuse to participate in injuring her.
“Perhaps, but hes the only candidate who appears on the FR popular keyword list.”
And tacit, overt support for any of the others (Rudy, Mitt, etc) lead to beatdowns, and possible purges.
I absolutely did. . .in 2004.
You really haven't looked into their differences in foreign policy, have you. Read up on their views and you will see much that is different in the approach to foreign policy that Hillary would take and the approach that Giuliani would take.
For instance, Hillary has the naive view that withdrawing from Iraq would somehow strengthen our influence in the international arena. Giuliani takes a much more realist approach in that he recognizes what such an action would do to increase Iranian influence. For you to say that the two have the same views on foreign policy shows that either you have not bothered to educate yourself on the issues or you have no clue.
I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
LOL Hadn't thought of it that way before, but you make an excellent point.
LOL Untwist your panties, honey. I like our system just fine. I was responding to your claim that not voting for the Republican candidate, no matter who that may be is the same as voting for a socialist president. Basically, I was saying that if the nominee were to be Rudy or Ronnie, I would vote third party or not at all.
I can't imagine how you got the impression that I have a problem with our system out of what I said, but hopefully you understand now.
Says it all about how you believe in our "system." Have a great day.
Oh, pullleeeaassseee.
I’m not sure why we don’t clearly represent the greater republican vote...or do we?
Yep, we have a great system. Anyone can run for President on any platform under any party banner. Voters can choose whom they wish to vote for, or can choose not to vote at all because there is this thing called freedom. (I am reminded of Saddam getting 100% of the vote in his last 'election'.)
Hillary has taken every conceivable position on Iraq, but she has sheepishly admitted that she can’t commit to withdrawal, ever. As a practical matter her view of Iraq doesn’t vary a bit from Giuliani’s. She understands full well that we can’t leave Iraq to Iran, it just isn’t in her interest to stress that point.
Like Hillary, Giuliani has given no hint how he would deal with Iran, other than to continue the Bush administration’s ineffectual diplomatic waltz. If you truly believe that Giuliani’s foreign policy would look any different from Hillary’s, or for that matter Obama’s, you don’t understand the first thing about the American foreign policy establishment.
That establishment has a Democrat face and a Republican face. Whichever is showing at any given time, business proceeds as usual. Hillary and Rudy are both establishment candidates, which means that they are equally incapable of meeting the challenges we face, even rhetorically.
What has Giuliani ever said to show that he understands we are engaged with a deadly enemy in an existential struggle and that the enemy has its center of gravity in Tehran? Nada. If we are destined to have a clueless President far better a clueless Democrat than a clueless Republican.
Impressive rhetorical skills there. Have you ever considered writing for a living?
You can’t seriously believe that America would suffer more from another Clinton administration than it would from a Guiliani or Huckabee administration. Why is a left-leaning statist so much worse than an authoritarian statist or a Christian statist?
I don’t care about the Republican Party except as a vehicle for conservative politics. If it chooses not to be that by nominating Huckabee or Giuliani, I couldn’t care less whether it wins or loses. We survived FDR, LBJ, Carter and Clinton #1. If it comes to that, Hillary too shall pass and she won’t do any more damage than a statist Republican would.
Yes, the Democrats are irresponsible regarding national security. So are most of the Republicans. American foreign policy has its own inertia and it won’t vary much with the personality, or party affiliation, of the Commander in Chief. Yes, Democrats favor bizarre theories of constitutional interpretation. But most Republicans lack the strength to oppose those theories and both Giuliani and Huckabee plainly fall in with most Republicans on this point.
What likely outcome of a Hillary presidency would be worse than what Giuliani or Huckabee would give us? Why should I, or any conservative give a tinker’s dam whether a Democrat or a Rino sits in the Oval Office? So far the answers that loyal Republicans are giving to these questions are lame in the extreme.
If you really want to motivate conservatives to vote for somebody as abominable as Rudy or Huck, you’re going to have to do a whole lot better than you’ve been doing so far.
What is going on? The republicans are handing the White House to the Rats [Hillary or ?].
Rudy is a rino in drag.....major liberal disaster for conservatism if he gets into WH.
Huckabee is tax and spend socialist and I don’t care how any times he says God, it would be nuts to have this leftoid as President.
Rommey is a flip flop liberal who is running on the wink wink I am really a conservative campaign. He will run the Presidency like he ran state politics as governor, LIBERAL to the 10th degree.
We have two Conservatives running, Thompson and Hunter and they are sucking dust as these liberals via for the top spots.
The Rats with the help of the MSM including the rino pretend republicans in the media are setting up the biggest disaster the right has ever seen in a Presidential race. The GOP has sold their soul to the left and there is no conservative force in the running for 08.
And this, “I will hold my nose and vote” for me it is, “I will puke if I just considered voting for one of these liberal puppets the GOP is running to be our next President.
No way I won’t help any liberal regardless of which party he is with.

You said it! The thought of voting for a RINO just kills me! I am going over to fred08.com and making another donation right now! I do hope Duncan Hunter is part of the Thompson team, but Fred is my candidate of choice! Go Fred!
“What would Free Republic do if Fred Thompson is not the Republican Party Nominee?”
Dunno about “Free Republic” but this household would vote for any of the others except Trudy or McAmnesty.
“Dont like it? Find a better Country with a better system of electing Presidents”
Or just vote for a candidate that reflects your principals.
If no candidate does that pick the one closest, or vote 3rd party, or abstain, or write in another candidate. There seem to be more options than vote GOP or Dem or else move to another country.
What if Hillary were a Repub? Would ya vote for her?
