Pascagoula, MS It was unseasonably warm on the river when Moses Henry felt the first nibble on his fishing line, waiting a second before setting the hook. His fishing pole bent in half and sent the reel drag screaming as the big catfish began the fight. This ones decent, he said as he reeled a 40 pound Flathead towards the boat. This is what life is all about he added.
Henry, a 75 year-old retired African-American, has been fishing his entire life. My first memories are of fishing with my grandpappy. I was scared of the worms and hed bait the hook. He taught me everything I know about it, from tying knots to which bait to use and how weather affects how the fish bite.
The recent rash of noose hanging incidents across the country has Henry, a lawyer and NAACP consultant, rethinking one aspect of his favorite past time, the fishing knot. I use a noose, the same knot my grandpappy used and taught me and Ive passed it on to my grandsons. I should have never done that
Ive never thought a black man could promote racism but thats just what using that knot does. Its a sign that something isnt right when I could teach my grandsons to tie it without a second thought as to its history, he added.
There are many fishing knots that can be used as an alternative to the noose to tie a hook onto a line and Henry has created a program to teach those knots to children at community and recreation centers throughout Mississippi.
The program called Not a Noose gets some funding from community civic organizations and donations of line and hooks from local tackle shops, but for the most part is paid for out of Henrys own pocket.
I travel the state quite a bit teaching these classes, and Im not as young as I used to be. Hopefully we can get some public support for this through community development grants or State money and Ill be able to transfer the reigns to someone with younger legs, he said.
The NAACP has contacted the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to see if there is any room in the budget for such a program.
Until then, Henry says hell continue with the classes in between fishing trips. We have to nip this in the bud now and our only hope is to end it through educating the younger generation, he said.
It’s got to be satire. It’s too stupid even for the usual lame liberal thinking.
Hahahahaha.
Nothing more follows.
Yes, this is satire. But the fact that I had to look shows how far off the track this country has gone into political correctness.
This kind of self limiting nonsensical thinking along with the black crime rate is why blacks will never get ahead in this country.
While it was absolutely insane, because many might actually believe in this junk, the story did make me laugh and laugh some more. ;>)
Oh the shame I feel shakes me to my very soul, it floods my face with a river of tears, it haunts my every thought with all of those things I never did but must now atone for, even in my innocence. Oh the overwhelming pain of it all.
Can I ever escape the pain and horror of my own blood, or should I simply surrender to the ever growing temptation to yield to the apparent wishes of the ‘downtrodden’, who seem to want me to become a vile racist?
What shall I ever do for repentance, and how might I ever live with all of this guilt? Must I feel the rage of those who think of me as dirty, when I drag a fallen tree by a “chain” behind my tractor or pickup? Should I see the same shame of my ancestors deeds when I put a white sheet on my bed? Might it be better for me to cry and think of my ancestors sins, each time I down a bird with my ‘shotgun’?
Signed:
Guilt ridden White Boy....sob, sob, sob.
PS. Yes, I did notice that it was satire. ;>)
Don't be so sure. Yesterday's satire becomes today's news.
Got some Cuervo and lime to go with that?
Palomar is stronger and faster tool.
Point is, here, that knot tying is important.
I always use the Palmor knot.
Dang, I ‘bout died laughing at the comments from freepers that didn’t realize this was satire.
Thanks for the thread Rb ver. 2.0
Descendants of Horse thieves are equally offended but they don’t get the press
“Im going blackfishing with a cinch knot - call the police.”
Can’t we all just quit carping?
Lawyer: Noose fishing knot needs to be abolished
