Oh, yeah....wait until it's clearly working...then support it.

Now, why didn't I think of that?

Stunning reversal!

This is an important part that I hope is not missed...

Ultimately, however, these military gains must be cemented with regional and global diplomacy, political reconciliation, and economic recovery -- tools yet sufficiently utilized. Today's tactical gains in Iraq -- while a necessary pre-condition for political reconciliation -- will crumble without a deliberate and comprehensive strategy.

I’m sure this will be reported in the MSM.

it will be interesting to see whether they turn on one of their own, or come around to the view, supported by a preponderance of evidence, that the surge is working

Anybody wanna make a bet on which course the antiwar crackpots will take??

Anyone who would let himself be used as General Batiste did by the enemies of our country is not someone I admire.

Interesting question. Did he realize that he was WRONG, or is he, in fact, merely flip flopping with the wind and tide?

It will be interesting to watch and see if the Democrats now follow him, as an acknowledged expert in their eyes. Indeed, perhaps they suggested to him that he should make such a statement, in order to lead the way as an expert, and thus help them flip flop more gracefully.

Or will they now repudiate him? Stay tuned. Murtha, of course, went first, but he pretends to be an old and experienced veteran who knows all about military matters.

I would be willing to bet Batiste’s former soldiers have one finger for him. Bastiste, a no convictions general, should not be trusted. He sold his soul to the democrats and spouted their talking points for two years. Now that we are winning beyond a doubt, he wants back on the train. Sorry, it is full with loyal riders.

This does not speak well for a General officer, active or retired. To base your policy on the way the wind blows shows a lack of character and commitment, especially on this issue.

I would like to add, like the democrats, Batiste gave aid and comfort to the enemy by giving them encouragement to carry on with the fight because we were losing and they were winning. How many American troops, coalition soldiers and Iraqi's lost their lives by this encouragement?

General Batiste has been bouncing around for a few years now. Needs a new job.......maybe as a consultant at Fox.

Aloha Smooth and Allegra!

National politics is such a sleazy arena hardly anyone can enter without being soiled. James Webb of Virginia was someone I admired for years. We served in the same battalion in Vietnam. It is pathetic that Webb, Anthony Zinni, Batiste, and others have debased themselves by adopting a defeatist line for the promise of political power.

Something that no one brings up - is the Speech that President Bush gave right after 9/11.
Something to the affect that it will not be an easy quick fix, we won’t be told what is happening and we should keep the faith.

We have a lazy lazy media. Young people that have been handed everything from birth that is so used to instant gratification has also fallen for the Clinton liberal ploy.

On Friday afternoon the Clintons give stories to the media that allows the reporters to quickly file something so they can leave for the weekend.

This also allows the media to pay less and therefore get less. In order to make a profit they have removed the incentive of true investigative reporting.

Because most of them are liberals at heart, they don’t want to know the truth if it means going against their ideology. The front page of the Washington Post, LA Times and New York Times is like a running advertisment for the liberals.

Are there any investigate reporters left?

Was he really anti-war ? or was he anti-administration strategy ?

"...we went to war with a flawed plan that didn't account for the hard work to build the peace after we took down the regime. We also served under a secretary of defense who didn't understand leadership, who was abusive, who was arrogant, and who didn't build a strong team."

"I think the current administration repeatedly ignored sound military advice and counsel with respect to the war plans."

"Donald Rumsfeld is still at the helm of the Department of Defense, which is absolutely outrageous. He served up our great military a huge bowl of chicken feces, and ever since then, our military and our country have been trying to turn this bowl into chicken salad. And it’s not working.

"The military is a reflection of society, and because of that there is always a percentage of soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors who get it terribly wrong." I also think the people of Iraq respect the U.S. military and will keep that in perspective. They'll appreciate the way we investigate and hold people accountable."

"Standing up a war czar is just throwing in another layer of bureaucracy. Excuse me -- we have a chain of command already and it's time for our leaders to step up and take charge."
