Are Iowa voters reflective of the national opinion? Do we really know what Iowa voters believe on the issue? Don't you think that the National Right to Life Committee is more informed about the issue and where the candidates stand?
Kabar, Iowa voters are most certainly NOT representative of the “national” opinion on anything. They’re a farming state, specifically corn. They care about farm aid, ethanol, and many are misguidedly pro-amnesty because they think that’s the only way they can get affordable labor (and, having relatives in the dairy farming business, I can say that for Iowa, they probably are wrong).
The only person I have spoken to in Iowa stated he found it disconcerting to see Fred talk about his numerous sexual affairs when he was single. This person also thought it strange and disconcerting that Fred has babies and a trophy wife so much younger than he is. If pro-life views are a pennant issue then along with that “pennant” must go personal and traditional sexual mores.
I think these things might matter to some but not to me. Incidentally, people usually do not vote on the basis of endorsements. It is a start to achieving recognition but it is not the final matter in the decision making process which invariably is broader, unconscious and founded on personal feelings and assessments of the candidates.
Sorry, Iowans, but your Hawkeye cauci don’t mean squat...which is why many candidates have ignored it. Those that are now jumping in have been manipulated by media hype that says it IS important. They are wrong, imho. Ditto New Hampshire.
