Won’t work. The Huckabee supporters don’t care about taxes or smaller government. They want to control government to impose their beliefs on others - and that takes money. Preferably other people’s money

“Actually Huckabee did start the dust up with one of his mailers where he quite falsely quoted Thompson. Oh it was a Thompson quote...but Huckabee cut it off before the end of the quote which gave what Thompson said a much different meaning.
If Huck is leading in the polls why resort to such tactics to begin with?”

Huckabee the Huckster is looking more and more the fraud the closer you look at him... This is not the only instance of Huckster dishonesty in recent times. There’s:
- his dishonest account of the Dumond case where he denies he pressured the parole board to free Dumond yet his public statements at the time and multiple witnesses and all the evidence points otherwise,
- his claiming ‘90 tax cuts’ when most were single-business minute (sub $1 million) tax breaks
- his false denials that he was responsible for higher taxes
- his false claims that the 2002 tax hike was mandated by the courts, when it was not
(see
htt://taxhikemike.org
- his trolling for religious bigotry to beat first Brownback and now Romney with supporters who expressed that “protestants should vote for protestants”

Huckabee is slicker than a greased salmon.

Iowans are making a serious mistake if they let him win Iowa.

"Huckabee would be the worst hands-down."

He's got my vote as well.

Sad to say, I have to agree with you. Glad Thompson is exposing Huck's record...

“Still doing everything you can to cast a negative light on everything about Fred’s campaign while being a compassionate, Christian conservative?”

In the words of Popeye, “I am what I am, and that is all that I am.” Ultimately, my goal is not to destroy Thompson, but move him to the right on moral issues. I am supporting Huckabee for moral reasons, but I would rather support Thompson because I think he is better suited to lead in a war. I would actually prefer a Thompson/Huckabee ticket. It would shore up Fred with the moral base, and give Mike a chance to understudy Fred for 4 to 8 years. Huckabee is a much better politician than Thompson, but Thompson is a true intellectual.

I got a copy of that flier yesterday. It details his history of tax and spend big nanny “conservatism.””

Dang it, hitting the Huckster with the *truth*. That’s gotta leave a mark.

“Huckabee attacked Fred with a disingenuous spin on what Fred said with a mailer sent out to Iowan voters.”

Then let me state that Huckabee was wrong to do that. It is not a class act.

Dang, Mr Rogers, you summed it up well! I can't imagine a much better way to say it!

Thanks for that erudite assesment, however, you are way off base!

Okay, so then, he's not very effective in doing what he's trying to do.

I hate to tell you, but he's coming across to many people as a tired and grumpy old man. He needs to get an energy drink and pump himself up with some smiles, as many people are turned off by his current approach.

(Personally, though, I tend to like the "negative" campaigning...keepin' 'em honest!)

It was obvious six months ago that Fred's campaign was being infiltrated by morons. I pointed it out here.

I am supporting Huckabee for moral reasons”

Supporting Huckabee is practically an immoral act, considering his dishonest explanations on so many matters and his questionable ethics.

1) Take immigration - Huckabee is dishonest, abuses his faith in a near-blasphemous way, and pushes a liberal agenda ...
Mike Huckabee disses Americans, Mexicans, promotes illegal immigration: http://lonewacko.com/blog/archives/005609.html

Christians Need To Beware Of Mike Huckabee: http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/c2007/cbarchive_20071102.html

While Gov. of Arkansas, Huckabee was AGAINST proving citizenship in order to register to vote. He called those who were in favor of this “racists”... http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20050218/news_lz1e18perkins.html

Huckabee fought hard to kill an Arkansas bill which would have cut off social services for illegal aliens. Huckabee called the bill, “anti-Christian” and “un-American”... http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2005/01/28/News/316347.html

Huckabee supported in-state tuition for illegal aliens... http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2005/03/11/News/318458.html

Huckabee’s opposition to the illegal aliens bill: http://www.diggersrealm.com/mt/archives/000718.html

.... and that’s just one issue.

The Huckabee supporters don’t care about taxes or smaller government.

Will hurling lies and insults at the Huckabee supporters pursuade them to switch to Fred? I doubt it. It looks like a brilliant strategy to ensure that Fred loses.

Perhaps you can explain what the appeal of Huckabee is, apart from his “I’m a Christian Leader” bit.

On other threads, other supporters have told me it is to oppose homosexuals (not too fond of them myself, although I’m not sure what role the Federal Government has in opposing them).

I’ve been told he’ll oppose teaching evolution in schools - not exactly a limited government position.

I’ve been told he is a compassionate conservative - which GWB has taught me is a person who expands the government’s role in education, housing and medicine.

I’ve been told he’s for the little person, although I’ve not thought of myself as little, and that he’ll oppose illegal immigration - which, if true, would be a nice conversion.

I’ve been told he only raised taxes because the dems controlled the legislature...just like they probably will in DC, although I don’t think most of his supporters care about tax rates, as long as the rich get soaked.

Why do you think he would appeal to a small government type?

I'm beginning to think you're right. Huckabee is absolutely horrendous on the border and on spending. And frankly, I'm not convinced by him as a Commander in Chief, either.

Where has this twit come from? Frankly, he's a Christian who likes guns. Apparently that's all some people need.

I haven’t lied about Huckabee. For many social conservatives, including myself, lowering taxes is not everything. However, every indication I see is that he is another ‘compassionate conservative’, whose concern is not the size or intrusiveness of government, just its direction.

While I admire a few of GWB’s positions, I don’t want a repeat. What indications do you see that Huckabee won’t be GWB, only more so?

I have to agree with that. There is a segment of the conservative movement that thinks that the guy who smiles the most and talks about Jesus the most is automatically the best “conservative” and ignore the fact that on about 497 out of 500 issues he’s the polar opposite of a conservative.
