The Urban League of Philadelphia's 2007 State of Black Philadelphia report paints a grim picture on the issue of race and inequality. It's a pretty dismal report. But it reflects the level of poverty in Philadelphia," Elijah Anderson, Yale University sociology professor, said yesterday.
Anderson, formerly with the University of Pennsylvania, is among several experts invited to an Urban League symposium on the report at the Loews Hotel at 9 a.m. today.
Crafting its findings as the "Philadelphia Equality Index," the Urban League's report says that black Philadelphians' quality of life ranks as just 72 percent of that of their white counterparts.

Black mayors control all major intercities of the USA. Any failures are squarely on their backs for failure to get the job done. However, blacks will continue to vote the same failures into office to continue their failures. That is the Marxist Dimocrat teachings to blacks, to continue the failure so that they can save them.
A personal conduct index would be interesting.
Well of course, where do you think all the survivers of Katrina went to?.....
Many of the problems they discuss are preventable, e.g., homocides, prison, unemployment, HIV.
lame....so lets author a bill everyone wears baggies and a hat on sideways and some bling then we'll have equality? sheesh
Because the welfare state was just as devastating to the black family as the slave state.
i have known several first rate black African engineers and researchers that simply cannot understand what's wrong with black America. they never believed it was possible for the majority of them to fall to such depths of depravity, being born and raised here and all.
i didn't know what to tell them...
Self inflicted trauma.
Well the report is right when it talks about attitude and behavior being key factors.
Philly runs the Boy Scouts out of Town when things are so bleak for the normal folks?
This goes to show that Liberals do not solve problems, they create them.
Whitey’s fault?
I have an African-American friend. She’s true African-America—born and raised in Eritrea and now a citizen of this country. She moved out of our neighborhood to a better one because of the illegals from Mexico and “faux” African-Americans. Let’s just say she’s not a fan of black America in general. She has two very young kids, lost her husband when #2 child was in the womb. but she lives in a nice house, has a nice car, and works hard. She speaks the English language as do her children. She was devestated when her husband died, but she got on with what she had to do to make a life for her and her two kids.
Not only that, but the black mayors control the rampany voter fraud for the Dems in these cities, which truly disenfranchises legitimate non city voters.
This is one way the Dems keep control.
Tax us more to give to those who keeps the city dwellers on the plantation.
The Dems are, and always have been, the party of slavery.
It's why Africa has so many problems.
It's why blacks in the US have so many problems.
They protect and side with "their own" to the detriment of themselves.
I have a highly educated, intelligent black brother-in-law who cheers that O.J. was found innocent. He considers it "justice" - because a black man got off.
Contrast that to the Unibomber - who was turned in by his brother.
Until they get past their racist, tribalist roots, black society will continue to be a cesspool.
You mean showing up like RapThugPopaCapOnYoAss on the job interview results in someone else being hired? Who knew!
yup... the ones i know really had a hard time getting their mind around the fact that they came from the supposed "backward/uncivilized" part of the world, only to find themselves more civilized than their long lost kin in the richest most advanced country on the planet. talk about culture shock...
This is not accidental either. Here is Frederick Douglass in his autobiography "My Bondage My Freedom" on the family and slavery:
A person of some consequence here in the north, sometimes designated father, is literally abolished in slave law and slave practice. It is only once in a while that an exception is found to this statement. . . .
I say nothing of father, for he is shrouded in a mystery I have never been able to penetrate. Slavery does away with fathers, as it does away with families. Slavery has no use for either fathers or families, and its laws do not recognize their existence in the social arrangements of the plantation. When they do exist, they are not the outgrowths of slavery, but are antagonistic to that system. The order of civilization is reversed here.
As Thomas Sowell has often written, the black family was making strides in the first few generations after emancipation, and overcoming Jim Crow. Seeing this the illiberal Democrats decided to keep the black man down with there anti-family no-fault divorce legislation, anti-family welfare programs, free sex revolution, abortion, and to put the final nail in the coffin, gay marriage.
Here is a partial list of Plaintiffs in Massachusettes gay marriage decision:
The plaintiffs are fourteen individuals from five Massachusetts counties. As of April 11, 2001, the date they filed their complaint, the plaintiffs Gloria Bailey, sixty years old, and Linda Davies, fifty-five years old, had been in a committed relationship for thirty years; the plaintiffs Maureen Brodoff, forty-nine years old, and Ellen Wade, fifty-two years old, had been in a committed relationship for twenty years and lived with their twelve year old daughter; the plaintiffs Hillary Goodridge, forty-four years old, and Julie Goodridge, forty-three years old, had been in a committed relationship for thirteen years and lived with their five year old daughter;
Fathers? - shrouded in mystery.
Why should we be surprised though? Here is Marx on the family:
The crude latent slavery of the family is the first property, corresponding perfectly to what economists call the power of disposing of the labour power of others. Division of labour and private property are identical expressions, one referring to activity, the other to the products of activity. They imply a contradiction between the interests of one individual or family and the communal interest.
Out of this contradiction the community takes independent form as the State, divorced from the real interests of individuals. It follows that all struggles within the State of democracy, aristocracy, monarchy, enfranchisement etc are illusory forms. The real struggle is between different classes to gain dominion in order to represent its interest as an illusion of the general interest.
As long as the division of labour exists, each man has an exclusive sphere of activity forced on him, from which he cannot escape, be it as hunter, herdsman or essayist. In communist society nobody has one exclusive sphere of activity; society regulates production and thus makes it possible for me to hunt in the morning, rear cattle in the evening, debate in the evening, just as I have a mind, without ever becoming hunter, herdsman or critic.
This fixation of social activity arises through the co-operation of individuals, determined by the division of labour, appears to them as an alien force the origin and goal of which they are ignorant. How otherwise could property have a history at all, to so have proceeded from parcellation to centralisation? Or how is it that trade, nothing more than the exchange of products, has come to rule the world through supply and demand? With the overthrow of the existing state of society by the communist revolution (of which more later) and the abolition of private property this world market power will be dissolved; and the liberation of each single individual accomplished.
The difference between African immigrants and people of African descent is amazing, IMO.
