Saddam VP's hideout found 07/12/2007 16:07 - (SA)

Baghdad - Security forces stormed a hideout belonging to Izzet al-Douri, the former Iraqi vice president under Saddam Hussein, in a village near Tikrit, 170km north of Baghdad, an Iraqi official said on Friday.

They broke into the hideout based on confirmed intelligence that al-Douri was using it to hold meetings with his aides, said the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The forces did not find al-Douri, but seized documents with information on the al-Qaeda terrorist network and other militias, their activities and the techniques used to conduct their operations in northern Iraq, the source said.

The documents also referred to the groups' objectives which involved attacking Iraqi military and police forces, but contained no reference to US troops.

The source said the police later pursued a car in which al-Dourri was believed to have been travelling, but the driver managed to escape.

They later found the car abandoned, but containing a computer with important information, small arms and other equipment, the source said.

Al-Douri was number five on the 55-wanted people list the US military had announced after the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Roger that. I write the date military style all the time, but haven’t seen it used on FR.

Since the article is from a South African source my guess would be a cut and paste was done by the poster and the day/month switch was not even noticed.

The US military and every country I've been in outside the U.S. uses the day-month-year format.

Japan uses year-month-day, as I believe does China. (In fact, that's even been codified as international standard ISO-8601. This web page on the ISO-8601 standard says that it is also used in Hungary, Sweden, Finland, Korea, and Denmark.)

Thanks el for the ping. I will give my recent pings more attention tomorrow as time permits. Looks like the slime ball Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri shall be shown to be a prime long term operator in many different phases of the insurgency movement.

Well, obviously this whole report is bogus, because everyone knows there is now and never has been, any al Quaeda in Iraq. /sarcasm

I believe he was a big time operator for a long time. If we could get his money, he’d be done.

And Iran isn't interested in a nuclear program

Remember Ahmanutjob's answer @ Columbia Univ when a student asked him something about gays in Iran? ... "We don't have any homosexuals in Iran. We don't have that phenomenom there ... "

If you ask Stinky if he has a nuclear program in Iran, the answer is the same sentence as his previous answer, just substitute "nuclear program" for "homosexuals" ...

I heard a women on the Rush Limbaugh show call in stating she had worked in Government writing formal documents. She essentially stated the IAEA Iran nuclear program report was unacceptably weak and politically motivated the way it was irresponsibly written.

This IAEA report situation has all the same markings of that disingenuous report filed by the Acting Inspector General of the DOD Thomas F. Gimble designed to give red meat to Democratic Senators Carl Levin and Jay Rockefeller.

As I remember Gimble's report came out mysteriously the same time Democrats and the left-wing media desperately wanted any info to discredit any links between Saddam and Al Qaeda.

Yes, I heard that call. I believe the lady's name was Jenny or Jennifer. She was very precise and very credible. Her insights into the report were fascinating.

I don't trust that report for a second, and I believe that the actions of those who wrote the report are quite possibly treasonous, though we all know in this PC chickified era, they will never be charged.

BTW, I got a chuckle out of your handle. Most of us 'legal' self-supporting folks do that every April 15.

There are those who believe he has/had control over a large part of monies that Saddam spirited out of Iraq before the Coalition came a knockin, and has been bankrolling much of the insurgency, and those entering Iraq from Syria too.

I thought about having bendovr as a personal licence plate on my car and putting the sign April 15 above it.

I was afraid I might get rear-ended by a Clinton supporter.

There's a lot of conservative bumper stickers out there to bring a chuckle to sane folks and irritate idiot Leftists that I have often been tempted to buy and put on our vehicles, but I'm reluctant to do so -- I figure the oh-so-tolerant folks on the Left would probably key my car, or worse.

Here are a few choice samples:

Don't Steal, The Government Hates Competition
Keep Working, Millions on Welfare Depend on You
Ted Kennnedy's Car has Killed More People than My Gun
Annoy a Liberal, Work Hard and Be Happy
Lib.er.al ... A person so open-minded their brains have fallen out
Vote Democrat, It's Easier than Thinking
Liberalism, Socialism, Communism, What's the Difference?
